In front of a packed house at the Sport Palace in the capital of Ukraine, undefeated #1 ranked cruiserweight contender Oleksandr Usyk, (9-0-0, 9KO’s) scored a seventh round stoppage of Pedro “El Reguilete” Rodriguez, 22-2-0 (19KO’s), on Saturday night. Defending his WBO Inter-Continental Cruiserweight Title for the fourth time, Usyk aggressively battled the Cuban from the opening bell, dropping him in the sixth stanza. Following a barrage of punches from the 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist, Rodriguez was sent to the canvas again in the seventh as the fight was waived off.

With the victory Usyk looks ahead to a big campaign in 2016.

“Rodriguez had a great deal of experience and was crafty so it took me a couple of rounds to time him but once I put my punches together I was hurting him with each shot,” said Usyk. “It was a good stoppage, he was badly hurt, I’m happy with my performance.”

Unbeaten lightweight Rances “Kid Blast” Barthelemy (24-0, 13 KOs) won a twelve round unanimous decision over Denis Shafikov (36-2-1, 19 KOs) to claim the vacant IBF lightweight world title on Friday night at the Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Shafikov aggressively pressed the action early, but was troubled by a bad cut (caused by a punch) over his right eye as Barthelemy came on late. Scores were 119-109, 116-112, 116-112. Barthelemy is now a two-division world champion, having previously held the IBF junior lightweight title.

“There were moments where I was trapped into my style of fighting. It took me a minute to adjust to Shafikov’s style and exchan

In a light heavyweight slugfest, Vyacheslav Shabranskyy and Yuniesky Gonzalez, 16-2, 12 KOs, traded bombs for ten full rounds in a thrilling two-way battle. When the smoke cleared, Shabranskyy, 15-0, 12 KOs, was the winner of a majority decision by scores of 95-95, 97-93 and 98-92. There were no knockdowns in the bout, but each fighter hurt the other on several occasions. The final round ended with perhaps the most exciting exchange of the contest, with both fighters swinging for the fences and doing everything they could to impress the judges (and fans) one final time.

In a lightweight fight taped to open the HBO Latino delayed broadcast, former world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, 25-1, 17 KOs, scored a 10-round unanimous decision over Houston’s Hylon Williams, 16-2-1, 3 KOs. Gamboa started quickly, stunning Williams at the end of the first round. The Miami-based Cuban continued to land the harder punches as the fight progressed. However, Williams came on later in the bout to make it a bit closer on the scorecards. Gamboa led on all three official cards by scores of 98-92, 98-92 and 96-94. It was Gamboa’s first fight in 13 months.

WBA interim heavyweight world champion Luis “The Real King Kong” Ortiz (24-0, 21 KOs) scored an impressive seventh round TKO over challenger Bryant “By-By” Jennings (19-2, 10 KOs). No knockdowns, but Ortiz battered Jennings from pillar to post in round one. In round two, Jennings smothered Ortiz in close and it was effective. Ortiz rocked Jennings again in round three. The end came in round seven when Ortiz dropped Jennings with an uppercut. The bout was waved off during Ortiz’ followup barrage. Time was 2:41

Former WBA 168lb champion Andre Ward (28-0, 17 KOs) could be taking a risky fight in March against unbeaten cuban light heavyweight Sullivan Barrera (17-0, 12 KOs) as a warm-up fight to get ready for a big match-up against Sergey Kovalev in 2016. According to Dan Rafael, the Ward-Barrera fight is being talked about for March 2016, but far from being done.

A bout between WBA super featherweight titlist, Javier Fortuna and Yuriorkis Gamboa is being discussed. It would be part of a two-fight deal that would see the two square off in the early summer.
