In a spectacular fight, unbeaten cruiserweight Yunier Dorticos (21-0, 20 KOs) scored a tenth round TKO over Youri Kayembre Kalenga (23-2, 15 KOs) to claim the WBA interim world title on Friday night at the Palais des Sports in Paris, France. Dorticos dropped Kalenga hard with a huge uppercut in round two, but Kalenga fought back gamely despite taking more big shots. After that, both fighters traded big punches for several rounds. Kalenga started to come on and seemed to be taking over. Dorticos was deducted a point for hitting after the bell in round eight. The end came abruptly in round ten when Dorticos rocked Kalenga and got a referee’s stoppage after dealing out more punishment. Great heart shown by both fighters. Fights like this are why we love boxing

In a rematch of their November 2012 technical draw, WBA super welterweight world champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara (22-2-2, 13 KOs) outboxed former U.S. Olympian Vanes “The Nightmare” Martirosyan (36-2-1, 21 KOs) over twelve rounds on Saturday night on Saturday night at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Lara’s mobility and skills prevailed over Martirosyan’s power and aggression. Vanes was deducted a point in round eleven by referee Vic Drakulich for a low blow. Scores were 115-112, 116-111, 116-111.
