Cuban heavyweight Jorge Gutierrez made his debut tonite in the Dominican Republic on ESPN Deportes. Won by 1st round KO against Sandy Antonio Soto. Even though, Soto isn't much, Gutierrez showed good power, speed, and excellent defensive skills.

Gutierrez is 34 years old, that's the age that appears in BoxRec. Damm, he was a very good amateur but starting to box professionally at 34 is pretty bad, if I were him I would'nt even try to box anymore because it takes around 3-4 years in order to even challange for a World Title... :-(

Parece que ahora todos los Cubanos tenemos la foto de Gamboa como nuestro mejor boxeador! Pero no nos olvidemos de Rigondeaux, que es otro salvaje... :-(

I just read about Ugas, that's very good news!!! We need more and more defectors like Ugas, definitely he has enough talent, skills and experience to be a solid World Champion. Can't wait for the official news!!!

We still need to get over here, Roniel Iglesias and Emilio Correa jr !!!

Those 2 are definitely 2 guaranteed World Champions... :good

I don't think Correa Jr. is going to defect, his family is too well known in Cuba and he's not going to risk hurting their status.

The way things are over there in Cuba just about anyone can defect right now, funny thing is that there are way more Boxers defecting compared to Baseball players! Why? :huh

Maybe they hear about the success that Gamboa and Rigondeaux are having?
