Brothers Rances and Leduan Barthelemy were denied the opportunity to watch elite U.S. professional fights while they boxed as amateurs in their native Cuba.

But Cuba’s prohibition of anything related to professional boxing could not change the Barthelemy’s aspirations. Amateur competition would not be their last stop.

Two years ago, the Barthelemy brothers left Cuba in search of personal freedoms and professional championship goals. And although they have shared many local gyms for workouts, the Barthelemys never were showcased on a similar fight card.

The Barthelemys also credit older brother Yan for taking the lead in their quests to become professional boxers. A 2004 Olympic gold medalist, Yan Barthelemy defected from Cuba in 2006 and has fought professionally since 2007.

 

Alexei Collado is due to fight 18-2 Irishman Paul Hyland on the Undercard of Rigondeaux-Casey. Hyland was Willie Casey's last opponent. Its a decent fight for Acosta but i dont expect Hyland to give him much trouble.

 

Savigne's Losing weight so fast I didn't even recognize him yesterday. . . His last fight he weighed in at 178½. . . He's shrunk even since then and that was recently. He'll have no problem making 168.

And I believe that Lester Gonzalez is probably the only one of the Cubans who didn't box in Cuba nor at the Amateur International stage and that's why he has lost a couple of times already, right? :good

 

Yan barthelemy has lost quite a few times already and he was a great amateur for cuba.

 

She can't hurt him brother, like I said a woman's punch is a lot weaker than any men's...:hey

Now it seems that the name " Yan Barthelemy " comes up everytime a fan wants to put down the Cuban amateurs. Well, Yan is probably the only one that has lost and hasn't done anything in the pros and that's only 1 out of 30 or so Cuban ex-amateurs competing in the pros that has done bad! So by bringing in his name it doesn't take away the much success that other Cubans like Gamboa, Rigondeaux, Lara and others are having!

PS, the problem with Yan is that he lacks a Chin and punching power and without that no one can survive in the pros but he definitely has tremendous skills, and who knows maybe he still can surprise many of us by improving his deficiences! Go Yan !!! :good

 

Yan Barthelemy has lost two fights. THere are about 25 unbeaten cubans who left cuba 2007-2010. He is the only one with a reputation . Savigne also lost a fight but he was not a top 10 in his weightclass in cuba when he left.
But sooner or later fighters will lose fights and many taking new titles after that.
Solis and Despaigne are not favorites in their next fight but, but who knows ?
In my opinion Lara is the best lightmiddle already, and i think many of the other names in that division want to avoid him as long as possible.
In a year or so the cubans might have 4-5 champs

 

Im not trying to put down cubans or anything. just saying a great amateur career dosent automatically lead to great pro success sometimes. I think one of the reasons why Yans losing is becuase he could be worn out from all the amateur fights he had.

 

An optimistic prediction:
Gamboa and Rigondeaux keep their title
Franco taking a title in 126
Luis Ortiz take title (from Haye ?)
Yuniesky Gonzalez taking lightheavy-titel (he was number two HEAVY in cuba)
Lara winning light middle. (100 % sure)
Ugas winning welter title
Pedro Rodriguez or Yordanis Despaigne taking a Lightheavy title
Luis Garcia or Vilier Quinonez taking title in Super middle
Solis taking a title against Vitali or sometime later
Collado-Acosta take a belt in 122
There a lot of other cubans but these names i believe more realistic to win.

 

Sorry, Dont forget Dorticos could win a title in cruiser
