When Pac and Floyd are done, which might well be by the end of this year, might we finally reach an era where there are very few (if any) PPV contests? Can the powers that be manage to manufacture a new PPV star in the next 12-18 months? Or with boxing returning to network TV and greedy basta'ds like Floyd and Manny retiring, can we finally begin to escape the dung show which is boxing PPV? :smoke
I was just thinking about this. So Mayweather has one fight on his contract with Showtime and if he wins he goes 49-0. What if he decides to end on an even 50 after that. What if he fights on one of these free-to-air channels for Al Haymon's PBC. Apparently the purses Haymon's paying are eye watering, so what if he has his last fight on network TV? Would he be possible to find a way to remunerate with sponsorships and advertising (who would obviously payed astronomical sums for such exposure) so it didn't need PPV? :think
Interesting food for thought. If he did something like that, ironically, he could possibly help pave the way to changing the game for the better by helping start a transition away from the garbage PPV formula.
Nah, I'd wager on Thurman more, he's got both the personality and an exciting style. Crawford's the exact opposite.
Canelo is the mostly likely candidate due to the Mexican fan bloc who play a huge rule in PPV' buys and so on. Crawford is definitely great, but I think in order to become a true star someone with a large enough fanbase would have to lose to him, and pass the torch in order for that to happen. As big of a fan I am of GGG, and Kovalev I just don't see those guys becoming big enough draws.
