I have and will continue to say that Amir Khan needs another trainer.
Roach is not mining Amir Khan's potenial. Khan has the heart, drive and sense of pride to be one of the best boxers. He needs a new trainer, american, mexican or martian.
I cant agree that Khan doesn't have the physical gifts. He has the gifts to be an elite fighter.

I also cant agree with the breakdown of Cotto. Mayweather considered Cotto unbeaten prior to fighting him. He beat fighters convincingly. He has a few weaknesses but no one has beat him on those weaknesses, not even Mayweather. Pac cant beat Cotto that Mayweather beat, and Margarito couldn't either without bricks in his hands. Cotto is an elite fighter as is, Mayweather is just better.

Yeah, the match-up of Floyd and Martinez is bumping lips against speculators but that fight should never happen. Its not the Martinez's ability to fight that would carry him, it would mainly be his size. At 154 I'm taking Mayweather all day. Martinez is 37, Mayweather is 35, If the fight doesn't happen immediately it shouldn't happen at all.

Khan mainly has very good hand and foot speed. But his punch resistance and power are lacking. He has physical gifts, sure, but they're not as pronounced as they were in the guys I mentioned, and Khan's technical skills aren't good enough to cut it against Mayweather either. Mayweather may not be a huge puncher, but he is accurate, and lands clean shots very often. Against a guy with an iron chin like prime DLH, SRL, SRR, Floyd's clean punches wouldn't bother them much. When Floyd tags Amir, he will be affected much more than somebody blessed with a better chin. And, as I was discussing earlier, his inability to have hard combinations, instead of flurries and hard single punches, is an intangible/skill he doesn't have or may not have either. He needs somebody like Manny Steward or Floyd Sr. to start training him.

Cotto is a very good fighter, and he fought well; I was just pointing out things I thought he could have done better. One key about fighting Mayweather is knowing he makes little adjustments during fights. Against Cotto, he realized the straight right wasn't getting through, so he switched to a looping right in response for instance. I was listing counter adjustments Cotto would have been well-served to implement. No matter what style or strategy you're employing against Mayweather, you have to be ready and willing to make small shifts in tactics when necessary to counter his small adjustments. I don't think Cotto did enough of that is generally what I was getting at.

And we'll have to disagree on Mayweather/Martinez. Mayweather was visibly smaller and getting outmuscled in close by Cotto, who isn't even a natural Super Welterweight himself. Martinez at the least is a natural Super Welterweight. He would beat Mayweather at 154 or 160, but the margin of victory would be greater at 160. At 154, Mayweather's chances are better, but I still can't favor him over Martinez. Mayweather is a smaller man at 154, and he doesn't have the same edge in physical strength he does at Welterweight over some opponents. There's no way he'd be able to walk down Martinez, and he doesn't have the legs to dance around and potshot anymore either.
