There is a clip available at HBO.com/boxing....just click where it says video under Pavlik/Lockett. Now from that, I must say, even if I'd never heard of either Pavlik looks to be a hella-favorite in this thing.
I dunno, it wouldn't shock the world. I'm still not completely sold on Kelly Pavlik as a complete elite fighter. I think he should win this one, but would I have a Tyson-Douglas or Lewis-Rahamn moment if he got KO'd? Nope.
Slim to none. Lockett seems a good bloke and a half decent fighter but the gulf in class should show pretty much immediately. I just hope he gives a good account of himself and doesn't get hurt.
Lockett has NO chance not even a so-called puncher's chance. He's not really any kind of puncher anyway. Beating on some local Euro-stiffs means nothing. The fight I want to see is Enzo and Jack Lowe beating each other with lawn chairs. :bbb
Of course he's got a puncher's chance because he has power, but he's several pegs below Pavlik in terms of class and so I can't see anything other than a Pavlik KO.
In a word No. Although he would shock the world if he lasted the distance but the odds on Pavlik on pts I am guessing will be reasonably high. I mean he was pushed quite close by Ryan Rhodes (current British Light Middle Champ) as recent as July 2006, Pavlik would have beat Rhodes inside three rounds so I would be shocked to see lockett still in their after at the start of the 9th to be honest.
How many times have we heard that? Turpin, Honeyghan, Douglas, Rahman, Clay (the list goes on) had NO chance eitheratsch
I hate those pretentious HBO videos. With the slo-mo and flashing and out of frame ****. But that clip of Pav/Locket was pathetic. They show Pavlik killing guys and then the little chubby guy throwing meaningless shots on some other little chubby guy. What the hell kinda build up was that.
Sadly maybe they are hoping that American's will tune in for an easy ass whupping of a foriegner? Or maybe they are just too lazy to do their homework on this one? They figure those that are already going to watch just need to be reminded of the day and time and don't care about trying to get any new viewers.
Locket has power. you never know. I think he is a worthy contender for sure. he has beat some quality operators I fancy pavlik by mid rounds ko though
Yes but at least these guys had a taste of World Class before winning these fights, fought former champions or had at least won a European Title. Lockett has not mixed in anything remotely world class so far. I mean if he had beaten Sebastian Sylvester or Amin Asikainen or even taken on a past it Ramon Campas, Matthew Macklin, John Duddy, Howard Eastman, Wayne Elcock or somebody reasonable by European standards but he has not fought anyone that could be called decent by World or European Standards.
My point is that there is no such thing as NO CHANCE. No matter how slim Lockett's chances are, it is still possible that he could win. I'd bet my house on him getting stopped in within five but to dismiss his chances completely would be naive.
