Lockett does have a pretty good punch, but take in to consideration that Hagler has an ATG chin, and decent punch himself. I think you MAY be under-rating Hagler some here.. No wonder people aren't too happy about this. I mean if he takes knees against Pavlik, he very well may get in to trouble with Hagler.
Very important points. If Lockett choses to brawl, he's getting taken out of there. His power might lead him to putting Hagler down like Roldan did, but Hagler has a great chin and nobody is keeping him down for long and certainly not for good. If he brawls, it's two guys with great power but only one with great punch resistance and this looks like Hagler v Hearns. However, Lockett does have the reach advantage and a great jab. Hearns tried to box early against Hagler but Marvin jumped on his and turned it into a brawl. Lockett is more disciplined and composed than Hearns when he has to execute a gameplan, and so I think he can use his excellent lateral movement, range control and educated left hand to prevent this becoming a brawl. I think he takes a solid decision if he just boxes confidently and consistently from the outside, sticking Hagler with that jab of his, bringing the right hand in behind it and occasionally when Hagler does manage to get past the world-class jab, timing him and hurting him with counter left hooks and lead overhand rights.
Gary Lockett voted for Labour in 2001 in his one and only vote to date. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me, right?
More Gordon Brown is. Perhaps Daniel Hannan as prime minister. He's great. We will gladly barter you guys Hannan for say Nancy Pelosi, or Harry Reid. Perhaps Lockett should run for PM
