No way. Lockett actually held the great WBU belt, and beat some great guys before Pavlik edged him out. Don't turn this in to a joke thread please
lot's of guys been KO's by Pavlik. Doesn't mean one should count Gary out in other possible match ups people
Exactly. Rafael Marquez got KO'd on his pro debut, and he went on to become a fairly decent journeyman. Happens to lot's of fighters. Even Cornelius 'K-9' Bundrage got KO'd. See, even happens to future HOF's.
Rafael Marquez fought a former world champion in his debut with 30-40 fights of experience and was the same Victor Rabanales that Wayne McCullogh stated as being the hardest puncher he has ever faced and Rabanales was the one that ko'd Marquez. Marquez even to this day is not a journeyman. Bundrage a HOFer? Are you serious?:rofl
the thing that seperates these 2 fighters is locketts huge upercutt. no one in boxing throws an uppercut quite like gary lockett. marvin knows this and knows he can't get drawn into a brawl or its curtains for him.
Two scenarios: If the Rocket could come back and get in contention for wba strap and fights Sturm next year, who wins? Would Sturm's height, reach, and defense be too much for The Rocket, or will Gary's one punch power take the sometimes chinny Sturm outta there? The other scenario of course would be a prime for prime contest, so let's say 2005-7 Lockett vs 2004-9 Sturm
I'd really like to see Gary get another shot at a belt. That is of course if he comes out of retirement
