Floyd made some wise marketing moves, but none of it would have been possible if he wasn't one of the best pound-for-pound fighters that ever lived who also managed to beat star after star after star without ever losing.

I tend to think of Mayweather as an artisan supreme. "Genius" is an accolade that has been dulled by careless use, but Floyd has frequently lived up to it inside the boxing ring. I thought it went without saying that he was/is a savant when he laces gloves on.

I did? More likely you're too sensitive to even the mildest perceived criticism (i.e. balanced commentary).

Fact is that the word genius as defined in the dictionary fits Mayweather and what he has accomplished and the way he accomplished it. Cut and dry. It's not an over statement and don't need to be explained. It's just a fact. Criticism is most welcomed by me because it can open an avenue for learning. However, BS ain't nothing but chewed up grass and I can get that anywhere.

It's not that deep, Manfred. I am saying that Mayweather's genius is limited to the practice of his craft and that the particular extent of his economic success is accountable to an age-old marketing strategy, ready availability of attractive dance partners and the auspices of his very well connected advisor.

If you feel that the extent of his acumen inside the ring has been mirrored by some exceptional natural business flair outside of it, that's fine. You won't make me a member of that cult is all.

See, there you go again, getting feelings confused with facts. My point is that according to the dictionary, the man meets the definition of genius. It's not about how long the game has been here but about how the game is played. It takes a different kind of intellect to play it on the level that Mayweather has. Here is an old saying for you, being that you like old things. " There are levels to this game". Mayweather is genius level, inside and outside the ring. If you don't believe anything, believe this, ain't nobody gave Mayweather nothing. His skills, mental and physical, took him to the heights that he has achieved. Not only that, he opened the door for others, Canelo, Jake Paul etc. Give the man his props and stop pouring salt.

I stopped reading there. Floyd being a genius in any field outside of a boxing ring is not a fact.

You're entitled your opinion, as I already stated. I don't need to read whole paragraphs about something I consider a defensive fan's flight of fancy, though.

You stopped reading because you are not being real. Drop the feelings and just look at for what it is.

I stopped reading because I see no sense in us going around in circles restating our positions. We have gone as far as we can with our exchange.

What you have is an opinion that Mayweather is some kind of genius business magnate. "Genius" is a big word that (while often carelessly overused) should be reserved for those truly exceptional and brilliantly inspired people in a field. Floyd is only truly exceptional in a boxing ring, by my estimation. You apparently disagree. That's ok. I don't seek to force your agreement.

I hope you understand now, Manfred. If not, well, I dunno, you can keep going, I guess.
