if Golovkin was holding the 168 linear title he should fight any single guy in that division who could challenge him.

But he doesn't, and Cotto does have it at 160.
If Cotto didn't, nobody would even suggest the fight because it's a total mismatch. But as long as he's holding the WBC and linear championships hostage he's fair game.

nothing remotely to do with double standards.

why does he need to clear the division, so he can fight a bunch of bums and pad his record? there is no one left to fight in the middleweight division, cotto should give up his belt he has no business at 160 claiming to be a champion.

ggg is not getting any younger he should either challenge someone credible to come fight him at 160 or move up.

    Why shouldn't he?
He has the chance to shatter records at 160 the way he shatters his opponents' chins.
He can even beat Hopkins' record as early to mid 2017 if he keeps it up. Historic significance.

yup and there's a lot of goof fighters at 160 and 160 has the best prospects coming through in boxing after 175, he could stay put and make a great legacy

not really, he will end up having a wlad klitschko type record. the real potential great fights are at 168...ward, froch, chavez jr etc etc

Chavez isnt rated that high at the moment, Froch is not interested and looking at retirement.

Which leaves Ward. I do think GGG and Ward will fight in the not too distant future. But really 168 is a wasteland at the moment.

ok iv no idea what Wards doing but he should end up at 175 very soon if he is interested in making the best fights

Froch has one fight left if any

    and chavez? really?

there's lots of good fights at middleweight, Cotto,Lee,Quillin,Murray,Lemiuex,HNN,BJS,Jacobs

and super prospects such as Quigley,Khytrov,Murata,Golub,Cummings,Derevyanchenko,Cudinov,Magomedov

as well Alvarez,Andrade etc are soon to be moving up also

You think Golovkin comes into the ring 190lbs?! Have you ever seen someone who is 5'10 190 ripped, they do not look like golovkin

People expect cotto to fight GGG because he CHOSE to move up to middleweight to fight for the lineal title, therefore the champ should fight his most worthy challenger. No one would be calling for it had cotto stayed at 154, it's pretty simple, so what don't you understand?

Stevens is short, not small IMO. He fought at LHW & SMW before moving down. Considerably bulky / top heavy.

Yep. Not exactly small. Avtandil Khurtsidze was a short AND small MW contender just 4-5 years ago.

Seen this come up a few times, I dont think it's a double standard - Cotto came up and got the MW title - so it only makes sense that he defends at MW, if GGG went up and got a SMW title and ward etc called him out no one would complaining because he'd have a title and be rated at that weight, and should have to defend the title against the elite at that weight class, but the scenario we have atm involves Cotto and GGG, GGG being the best at MW and Cotto in not willing to defend his title and just sit on it, either fight at and prove you deserve the title or vacate (and I'm not just trying to hate on cotto, I believe this should go for ALL belt holders across all weight classes, if you move up (or down) and get a belt you should defend that belt against the best that weight class has to offer)
