That would be an interesting fight. They would be the absolute antithesis of one another from a technical standpoint. However the best version of Baer was extremely durable with a good tank and sheer physical advantages, all be they crudely expressed - and his right hand would be an ever present danger, especially if Gene became complacent and a little bit careless whilst perhaps meting out an otherwise comfortable lesson in boxing.

If we did a midget killers thread, it would be a thousand pages.

It’s not too surprising that a smaller and likely better skilled man (the general, natural order in terms of P4P) will enjoy some very good moments against his bigger opponent.

Periodically but less frequently, their skills will be good enough to eclipse marked size disadvantages.

To secure even more outstanding results (like say Dempsey, Louis and Langford), they will also often possess weight transcendent chins and/or power in combination with their skills.

We simply don’t see many of those types of match ups (calling in notable size differences) now that were often held in the days of yore.

Well nobody really ‘killed’ Wolgast in his prime, did they? Heck even Henry Armstrong had to settle for a decision over the little guy.

That is incredibly non PC. Midget killing was outlawed many years ago. They’re not even allowed to be thrown around anymore if you didn’t know.

Ed “Too Tall” Jones, a 6-foot-9 NFL all-pro football player, turned pro and fought to a 6-0 record, gaining some attention in the early 1980s or thereabouts.

In his debut he got knocked down by a guy named Yaqui Meneses, who appeared to be about a foot shorter (at least in my memory). But Jones won the fight.

Seven-foot heavyweight Marcellus Brown lost a bunch of fights, but notably got chopped down in two rounds by Bobby Crabtree (a useful journeyman out of Arkansas) and Trevor Berbick.

Jerry Quarry was quite the giant-killer. Mac Foster had 2" in height and 14 pounds on Jerry. Ron Lyle had 3" and 19 pounds on him. And Buster Mathis had 3" and 38 pounds on him and as we all know, he handled them all.

    Joe Walcott over Joe Choynski.

    David Haye over Nikolai Valuev.

Greb against a bunch of people.

Not sure of the weight difference for their fight but I assume we can count Roy Jones over Ruiz as well? Same with Mickey Walker vs Jack Sharkey.

Tommy Loughran going 15 with Carnera was impressive given the weight difference.

How recently was this changed? Is "I didn't know it wasn't legal anymore" a good legal defense?
