Many posters don't hesitate to light-heartedly call a fighter 'a glass-jawed fraud' once they see him get knocked out. Aside from the fact that many of those who make such claims have never been in the ring and get hit by a power punch to see what it is like, I think that this whole attitude is flat-out wrong and unjust towards fighters. First of all, a power punch is more likely to hurt a fighter who's on the receiving end than not. A fighter can have a fairly good chin, and get KO'd cold by a solid punch that lands flush. Plus, whether the fighter who takes the punch sees it coming or not plays an important role on the effect of the punch. Now I'm not a boxing expert, but I believe whoever has followed boxing for some time can understand that there are also other important factors on the matter, such as weight-draining. All of you must have watched a fighter that is struggling to make weight and looks weak in the ring, getting more easily hurt than in previous occasions. My point is, a fighter can have a good chin but could get hurt, depending on the circumstance. If this happens, it doesn't necessarily mean he has a bad chin. Imo, fighters who rarely get hurt by power punchers have a very good chin, but it's not vice versa. A power punch coming by a fair-good puncher and landing flush usually hurts the opponent, this is the norm.
The glass jaw brigade are either stupid or just on the wind up. They would have called George Foreman chinny after getting stopped by 'feather fisted' Ali and then being put down twice and on jelly legs for most of his next fight against Lyle...and then being put down by Jimmy Young only a year later. That would class as ming vase chin to some of these idiots.
most of the forum, like gaul, will agree with you. you'll only really get arguments from rico and his groupies
Some fighters are seriously glass jawed but people on ESB use the term to liberally based on the fact that someone got KOed which is just stupid. I think the average man on the street is glass jawed when compared to professional boxers. I am sure Malinagghi could KO most of the posters on ESB.
they are just doing it to get a rise out of people. Its pathetic but what can we do. in the end its the internet.
Exactly my point. And of course there are fighters with weak chins, absolutely. :rofl I have no doubts on this.
some yeah but others just do it to **** around im sure. Rico is one that does believe everything he says about chins. Must be due to the insecurity of having a head the size of an almond and a paper mache chin but yeah he is the "chin specialist" here. The others nahhhh.
