If we look at the heavyweight picture of the early 90's, we see Tyson Holyfield Bowe Lewis Ruddock Foreman Witherspoon Mercer Moorer Douglas Frankly, I see very little room for even some of the best of today's heavy's except for the Klitschko bros who might fall in somewhere around mid-list. Fighters like Valuev, Peter, Maskaev, Chagaev, etc are not even top 15 heavys in that era. It is a sad state of affairs, but painfully true. Another poster pointed out to me that Gary Mason was a fitter, more polished version of Sam Peter, and I can attest for the fact that Mason was nobody in the early 90's.
Ahhhhh yessss Razor Ruddock....what a dissapontment he turned out.You can add Tommy Morrsison and maybe Rahman and Tua.
I'm having difficulltys seeing who the heavy weight division's future lies with.I'm sorry but I find the brothers Klitchsko's a turn off.Maybe it's just been the recent match up.I enjoyed the Haye vs Barrett shoot out but I've turned off a few fights recently two featuring Wlad Klitchsko. I've been watching the Tyson series on ESPN just the first epeisode of his first pro fights,he almost takes the head off a guy called Michael Johnson and there is nothing in th realms of that sort of action in todays division that K have seen.I've never watched Arreola so can't judge him.I've seen mostly British and Eastern Block,European heavys. Please tell me there's some light at the end.
Only light is if Haye can actually pull it off against Vitali Klitschko. If he can, then he may be a future star in the making and might rise the division from the dead. If not, then the entire division is doomed until another young, viable contender bursts onto the scene. But that won't be for quite a few years as I don't see anyone out there right now that could take over the division.
Rahman and Tua were not part of the scene in the early 90's, and no way does Morrison belong on the list that I created. As for Ruddock, he was actually a very solid contender. The only reason he never went anywhere, was because he was stopped in his tracks by two all time greats in the form of Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis.. No shame there. I personally think that Ruddock would hospitalize a lot of today's heavyweights. I would favor Vitali Klitschko to beat him. His brother would be a 50/50 bet due to his chin issues as well as tendency to get hit with the left. No way is Sam Peter, Nikolay Valuev, Oleg Maskaev or Ruslan Chagaev beating a prime Ruddock.
Mercer had one of the more devestating KO's I've ever seen. This is still one of my favorites. Never been a big fan of the heavies but you can't help but love this one. For the record, I agree with Ray in that the ref. was a little slow to act. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpdeONftgaA
