Who do you think it is? If you don't know what I mean, I mean who do you think was the greates of all time PfP based on ability to beat most varieties of styles most dominantly. So not based on achievements.
Only responses that feature fighters that proved it in their careers should be taken seriously and the names Ali and Robinson better be right at the top.
Roy Jones Jr. and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are the closest of the last 20 years as far as being able to beat most styles. All-time...Ali beat every style fighter out there and Sugar Ray Robinson did the same.
Yeah all those mentioned, and Leonard. Probably the smartest fighter I've seen in the ring (minus his foolishness in Montreal).
Robinson comes to mind immediately ....the guy was amazing ita a shame his welterweight dominance isnt on film anywhere .....His amateur record was 85-1 with 69 KOs (40 in the first round) He lost his 1st pro fight after going 40-0 at welterwight and he stepped up to middle and lost to a fighter who everyone feared( Jake Lamotta).he then didnt lose another fight in his next 66 fights which spanned from 1943' to 1952'.....he fought everyone and anyone from his pro debut at 135 all they way up to light heavy....he didnt really start losing until he got older and from what i recall those who did beat him never beat him twice.....a truly amzing combination of speed, power, stamina, durability, and skill that might never be seen again from some one who fought as many times against the best opposition.
RJJ sure. Floyd has glaring weaknesses against pressure/high output fighters and southpaws. There is a reason he's been exceptionally hesitant to take a Pacquiao fight.
Willie Pep (could outbox anyone if not out-sized IMO which is the definition of p4p) Ps. People might bring up Saddler but that guy was about 6ft tall & could easily fight at LW + Pep wasnt absolute prime (still a great fighter tho) as it was after the plane crash & he still won 1 of those fights & was outboxing Sandy in the last 2 before those dodgy stoppages in fights that were so dirty that it was more street fighting than boxing. With the rules of today, Pep would either win by UD or DQ IMHO.
Robinson, Ali & Ray Leonard could easily be an answer too (I know Ali wasnt as `complete` as the sugar`s but he was still amazing at adapting & a great strategist that knew how to stick to his strengths & avoid his weaknesses)
Floyd has a good shout, his discipline inside the ring is second to none, evident by the way he fights in his manner every time and also how he handles other interactions in the ring. i.e zab fracus with trainers etc. He got hit with low blow and was the coolest cat in their every other fighter would have been brawling. It shows his cool demeanour. Sugar ray was good but could be outboxed quite easil;y from time to time and often fought to the opponents rhythm. When sumarising you have to think who has great offense great defense is durable and has tactics and great mind. Floyd or RJJ.
Lagford. Out-boxed the greatest boxer of his era in Joe Gans. Has a one punch KO over Harry Wills up at HW.
