I honestly still like Burley best, although that might me a personal thing.

    That's good.

I was worried about it last week when I took a look at it to edit it. It seemed disjointed. I don't know if anyone noticed but it actually jumps around in three or so time frames -beginning with (what I see as) the end of his prime (Baroudi's death), then to how he is wrongly remembered in the 50s, then backwards to his youthful days of terror, then it jumps all the way to the end of his life.

I wasn't sure that it would read well, but I guess it does. That's a relief.

This is all a matter of opinion, obviously. I see it as trying to minimize speculation in an inherently subjective exercise. P4P rankings have to be subjective and speculative but we can limit some of that by dividing eras. I see three or four.... the bare knuckle era, the pioneer era (gloves), the modern era, and perhaps the post-modern era (since 1987). Something like that...

As for Fitz and Langford... I'd say that Fitz's prime is right on the cusp between the bare knuckle and the gloved/pioneer era so he could be compared to Langford, whose prime was in the pioneer era.

It was beautifully put together. You do master the narrative. No doubt about that.

That was the best article yet. By a lot. The thought of Marciano and Moore helping Charles to walk. Joe Louis visiting him as he's bedridden. Powerful stuff.

I'm sure you're sweating that. Judging from his second to last post he would last about three days on this board. **** him, allowing for the fact you don't approve of cursing.

Stoney, you gotta let my last comment through. I didn't see the bit about foul language so my name might need a bit of changing.

Pea, are you saying that you posted a comment under the Charles article? I don't control those comments but I know that sometimes it takes a little while to show up on the site. Post it again if it doesn't.

That last post isn't from Cox --it's AT (@) Cox. And guess who it's from.
