If you're so certain over your placings, I assume you have the knowledge to back it up. So who would you shift to make way for Ali? I want a resume dissection of them and why Alis is superior: otherwise it's not opposite opinions but unfounded opinions based on bias. The whole 'we can't be sure of Langford' (who by the way doesn't feature in 'The Gods of War') doesn't really wash as there are numerous posters on here who have looked through a lot of info on Langford which have helped put the pieces together. If you only judge by film, then would you say a fighter that is clearly average automatically better than Greb? All uve seenyou do it criticise, you add **** all to this board. So, go on :good
We do have film of the likes of Gene Tunney, Mickey Walker, Tommy Loughran, Mike Gibbons and it's difficult to ignore the accomplishments of the man who beat them all despite no film of him being in existance.
:-( There is enough written evidence in newspaper articles and similar to know what you think we don't know. More than enough. But you can continue to ignore it. At HW, yes. P4p, no way, absolutly no way. That's crazy. And I named you 5 fighters who certainly should rank above Ali. I could put up another 5-10 names that have an argument to rank above Ali. Ali is not "easily" Top5. No way!
Ali's resume : Elite : Foreman, Frazier X 2, Liston X 2 Good : Lyle, Shavers, Moore, Bob Foster, Patterson X2, Norton X 2 Right there is a total of eleven wins over HOF opposition with two very good wins over Lyle and Shavers when he was well past his prime. I think that resume is enough to get him in the top 10 for sure.
I don't say it's impossible; I say it's unlikely, less likely than a church nut producing footage of Flowers-Walker - and I say it better be soon because that film is physically in trouble this decade, from what I understand.
Agreed. With his admiration for old fighters it's basically impossible that Mike wouldn't have yet spoken of Greb. Best thing is that he won't be hard to spot in 'untitled' footage. Hopefully. Again, I've given up all hope so don't know why I'm typing I'm gonna stick some Leonard Cohen on.
He has an argument for sure but so do 15-20 guys. The argument was that the guy stated Ali would make the Top5 "easily". That's ridiculous. Nobody makes the Top5 easily and imho Ali not at all.
To be honest ricardoparker93 that (on paper on least) is not as impressive as say, Canzoneri. I have Ali at 9 due to some qualities his ring record has (I.e the stature of 3 of his opponents plus his obvious talent) but even if we're going by ability and resume, I wouldn't say Ali's a top 10 lock, not by any means.
No Ali could certainly be left out of the top 10 and I feel he is around the 7 mark personally. A lock for top 5 is ridiculous and i wasn't agreeing with the statement in any way. I think its' the guys longevity from 64 to 79 and his pure natural ability that gets him there alongside by far the most impressive resume from a heavyweight IMO. He doesn't rank ahead of Robinson, Greb, Charles, Armstrong or Duran for me though.
Out of interest whereabouts do you have Louis in your top 100, I have him fairly high but I hold him in very high regard indeed.
I think I have Louis at about the 15 - 20 range. My list is always changing as I learn more about different fighters on the forum. Where is he on yours?
The individual placing will change depending how I'm feeling that day when in contemplation, but usually between 11-14 and never lower than 15.
