Stone hand,Thank you...I have just read a summary of your choice of Harry Greb...On a personal level, Harry Greb who my father saw whip Tunney to a frazzle in MSG,1922,and saw Robinson many times as a Welterweight, always insisted that the FEARLESS GREB was the greatest fighter in history,P4P of course...I feel in an abstract way, your article vindicates his favorite tough guy Harry Greb...As George M Cohan said "I thankyou,my father thanks you"------.
McGrain;Re The Gods Of War--About the paragraph you quote on Greb...Greatest I ever read describing Greb...Please,is there a connection between Stonehands and Springs Toledo?......please post a reply, because this Springs Toledo is a hell of a writer...Thanks, Burt Bienstock...
Pardon me I'm dyslexic... good thing I didn't mention it. Shouldn't have bothered saying anything regardless.
:happy Congratulations Stonehands on a fantastic series of articles. I'm sure these will be read for years to come. Very well-researched, very well-written. Entertaining, and they bring these legends to life. Pure gold for the classic boxing enthusiasts. I agree with Greb above Robinson. My only wonder is who I'd put above Greb ! They are a number of candidates who didn't qualify for your list because they peaked before 1920. I believe Langford, Gans and Fitzsimmons, for example, would be right up there among the top 10 or so (and perhaps even challenge Greb for #1). But I'd have to go more in depth in the research to seperate them into a ranked order, as you have done. :good
I'm very happy to see Greb at No. 1. Based on resume I feel Greb is head and shoulders over Robinson. Only reason Robinson should be rated over Greb is because we have film of him.
Thank you Burt. I noted your comments on that site after articles that I had done before this series (including "Where Have You Gone, Harry Greb?"). Funny enough, I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated them and the next thing I know, you show up here on ESB Classic! I hope that your father is toasting Greb up there beyond the golden gates as we speak.
nice shout out, ryan doesn't get nearly enough respect sometimes (myself included). ATG middle, helped revolutionize the sport
