Well, that incense line is from Shakespeare (and he is credited). I was very happy to come up with "the empty ring looms in the stillness ...a pagan shrine splashed with blood."
aww damn, forgot about that. Hey, that's just proof that the calculations were done without any presuppositions. Yeah, that's the ticket. I was so damn objective, I was FORCED to break my word! (and if you don't like that excuse, then consider it revenge for your drunken theft of one of my posts a year ago...! -Remember THAT?!) PS/ did you get what I sent to your email?
That was my post in spirit. I read that bad boy once and will re-read it this weekend and fire you one back.
That too, just one of many highlights. And this- 'Robinson’s eyes met theirs and the ovation washed over him. His defeat was being sanctified.' And 'Aging ex-champions always know, even when they lie to themselves, or go mad with delusions. Grandeur seems to dangle over their graying heads like a star on a string, but they can’t jump anymore to reach it, and their gloves, like arthritic hands, can no longer hold it. It all slips away; until the earth-bound god-in-denial is publically humiliated' The article was like an emotional rollercoaster illustrating Robinson's career in the mind but without the generic same old focal points we're all used to reading from when we first learned about boxing. That's one of the greatest things about it, after reading a couple of your installments, we knew you were punching from unexpected angles and it was really exciting waiting for you to drop them. You've really give us a jewel here.
I should have fired one back to you to confirm that, I guess my focus was the attatchment rather than the e-mail.
Yeah it really made me feel for him. It was a combination of his style, that'd lose him recognition because of marketability. Then his lack in marketability makes him a high risk/low reward fight, that prevents top tier guys fighting him, which makes him lose out on potential resume and public recognition. Which makes him lose out on money he was worth with his calibre. Then theres the racial predjudice of the time giving him another kick in the ass and amplifying the other setbacks. And then father time comes along and puts the icing on the cake, erasing his already unappreciated place in history. Im like DAMN!! I want to give this guy a hug.
Did everyone see the letter Julia Burley wrote to Ring Magazine last month? It was epic, epic ownage.
"I am writing to let you know I am Mrs.Julia Burley, the wife of the late Charley Burley. You do not know me or Charley. We were never poor. We owned our home and raised three children and were well respected in our town. We were given the key to our city as well respected people. And we would not want to live in Mr.Williams building [****ing legend]. So you can redo that statement you put in The Ring magazine, as people called me to let me know such a nasty thing was written about my husband. Thanks for nothing. Julia Burley Pittsburgh, PA."
What a picture. Only today I was wodering if there were any pics of Burley as an old fella, as of course he retired due to lack of oppurtunity rather than declining attributes. Good find lad :good
That used to be McGrain's avatar. It's funny that i think that's a far better avatar than any action shot.
