I think it would have been a hell of a fight and had Norris not gotten careless against big underdog Keith Mullings we would have gotten that fight, which was highly anticipated at that particular time..

De la hoya was still learning and was a little flawed especially since his right hand was pretty much non existent. I think with norris's skills, speed and explosive power its very plausible that norris would have been favored to win or at least be as low as a 2-1 underdog, and could have pulled it off.

Who do you guys think would have one this fight had they mixed up in '98?

De La Hoya was very active in his younger days and I think he would have outworked Norris to a UD.
Just look at those Luis Santana fights vs Norris.

Norris is notorious in calling the lower weight. It's apparent even in mythical match up lol.

Serius though, it's a tough match up. Norris is slightly bigger and I assume this match up is at 154 where Norris is at his best.
I pick Oscar by UD. I think Oscar is tough enough and will respect Norris punching power and will go to work behind his stiff jab.

Norris is one of favourite fighters and at 154 there are not many would be favoured to beat him.
I always like fighter who can throw a straight right hand and Norris had one of the sweetest of them all.
    Pick them fight I think.
But I give Oscar the edge in chin, I think Oscar can take more than the other way around.

Exactly my feeling. I can't see Terry getting rid of him. On the other hand, you can't say that Oscar doesn't have what's needed to finish the job on that underrated but still highly imperfect chin.

Tough tough fight for Oscar, I cant call it tbh. I could see Norris all over De la Hoya late as the tank emptys. I don't know whether he can build a lead big enough that Norris doesn't claw back later in the fight. They can both hurt each other !

Norris got dropped a fair few times especially against weaker opponents, just look at the Troy Waters fight. ODLH was a savage early on with his left hook and had great whiskers so Norris is not blowing him out of the water. ODLH stops him in the latter rds.

This fight is scheduled for 1998 so the matchup is not about the fighters it's about the timing. By 1998 Norris was washed up as evidenced by that fact that, beginning in December 1997, Norris lost his final three fights, all against considerably lesser fighters than De La Hoya. As @KelandBeave noted, back then De La Hoya was a savage. Norris has no chance of winning and I would guess he is stopped inside seven rounds.
