Plenty of discerning fans think he is, mate. I think you're applying your opinion as if it's a fact. Larios was still decent when Linares beat him at a pretty early stage in his career (wasn't he 21?). Juarez is decent and generally only loses to the best guys out there (twice to Barrera, to Marquez, to Chris John, once unfairly to Litzau, and to Soto). So to beat him and knock him down is pretty impressive.

I'm not someone who's going to swear Linares is the second coming of Christ, but he's good.

 

He's not costing them that much though is he? Plus he has a decent fan base in Japan and there are some potential money-spinning fights for him over there against the likes of Uchiyama and Aoh if he is to go back down to Super Feather.

 

He really isn't that good. I can find plenty of fans that agree with me.

Larios was **** and out of his best weight. Still wasn't a particularly impressive performance. Linares has essentially been molly
coddled through two weight classes (picking up his 130lb title under the softest circumstances) and then sparked by a fighter who has subsequently gone on to not look that good himself (shame as I felt Salgado looked decent when blowing out Jorge)

People act as if Linares is an ultra-talented fighter. He's okay, but is B Level and is not worth the push Golden Boy obviously felt he deserved.

All my opinion of course, but watching him makes it clear. Juarez is a good gatekeeper, I actually fancied him to win. Good win? Yes, but why wait until now? Linares didn't look amazing, as we have reference to how other Elite level performers dealt with Rocky.

For a 10 round fight, he did well. Fair play to you
not saying he's the second coming of Christ, problem is, that's what you can try and make a fighter appear nowadays, with soft 'interim' titles and meaningless moves up in weight when you've done nothing in the division you're in.

Linares=Overrated

 

True. He's not going to be a 'star' though. Useful at best IMO. How do you rate Linares Kos? You fancy him to beat Uchiyama, who I know you like but still have some reservations about?

 

Linares is decent, nothing to shout about IMO. He's flashy in bursts and has decent footwork. I feel Uchiyama would win, Salgado adopted a similar approach in his fight with Uchiyama as to what Linares did last night, and Uchiyama controlled the fight for the most part. Add to the fact that Uchiyama can whack (esp. to the body), I feel he would grind Linares down and stop him in the mid rounds.

 

If you had the choice would you rather watch:

(a) Victor Ortiz v Marcos Maidana and Danny Jacobs v Dmitr Pirog.

OR

(b) Victor Ortiz v Joe Schmo (and ten more like him) and Danny Jacobs v Armless Arnold (and ten more like him).

Agreed. Jacobs may have lost some momentum but we got to see that Pirog is made of stern stuff. He has an instantly intriguing style, I look forward to seeing him again.

That's what a 50-50 fight is all about. Let's hope we see Golovkin Vs Njikam ASAP, Koborov step it up, an even more hench Kirkland post-jail and Chavez Jr all step it up and give us an intriguing middleweight division again.

Jacobs shouldn't be held back. He needs another stern challenge next, maybe not a big puncher though. He can come again. Maybe Winky Wright, inactive yet again, would not be a terrible opponent for him?

Middleweight has a chance to re-establish itself as one of the matinee divisions in boxing. Martinez-Williams II is the first step towards this IMO.

 

They don't ever protect fighters at all, with the exception of Khan. I don't know why they protect Khan so much, it must be on his own orders.

i had never seen pirog before, though i rated jacobs highley, pirog made it look man against boy, looked very big and extremly fit and awkward, about the worse kind of oponent you could want.

 

u moan when the big fights aint made and now u moan coz they put them in 50/50 fights.
