The Good Old Days of Boxing

Boxing needs to go back to the good old days. When instead of crooks like Richard Schaefer and Bob Arum playing big parts in the sport, we had honest peaceful men like Frankie Carbo, Blinky Palermo, and Jim Norris. Boxers in the past would never take dives out of fear of the Mafia.

Instead of HBO and Showtime with their crappy HD camera coverage, we have the great TV coverage of classics like Harry Greb-Gene Tunney, the first two Tony Zale-Rocky Graziano fights, and all the watchable clear footage of a prime welterweight Ray Robinson!!

Instead of heavyweight champions like Wlad Klitschko only defending his belt 2-3 times a year, we need to go back to active HW champs like James Jeffries, Jim Braddock, and Jack Dempsey. Did you see how active Dempsey was in the latter part of his reign? Amazing activity!!

Boxers nowadays are so money-hungry and care too much about that instead of fighting who is most worthy. Contenders always got their chances in the past, especially when they were most worthy. Guys like Archie Moore, Charley Burley, Jimmy Bivins, Ezzard Charles, Holman Williams, Lloyd Marshall, Harry Wills, Joe Jeanette, and Sam Langford. Could you imagine a fighter in the past, like a Jack Johnson or Ray Robinson, pricing themselves out of fights like today's cowardly businessmen? No way! And could you imagine a fighter, let's just call him Fritzie Zivic, buying out another fighter's contract, if that guy, like say a Charley Burley, had just beat him?

No way. That only happens in today's terrible era.

Boxing needs to go back to its fair past!!!

 

Jack Johnson.

Too bad Ruiz wasn't an all-action fighter like Jack Johnson.

Johnson's fights were so action-packed, no clinching or lulls in the action at all.

 

Because of the mafia/because of fear that they would be murdered or blackballed by the mafia.

Same difference.

 

Oscar fighting a former flyweight is a sign of the times.

Can you picture a heavyweight champion, let's just say he's from Manassa, fighting a light-heavyweight who started his career as a featherweight?

Or Joe Louis fighting a light-heavyweight whom he had 25 pounds on?

Well I wasn't around for a lot of the old days to truly compare.

There are a lot of good and bad things that the fans today have that the fans in previous years didn't have, and vice versa.
