Sad, but true statement about any number of US fighters also.

Good post, I agree with the points you made. As I said an earlier post, America at one time was the place to fight if you wanted to get noticed, now things have changed quite a bit, American fighters talents have went down, while other countries fighters have been steadily getting better. I just hate seeing the Heavyweight division in such a sad state, with the eastern euro's holding 3/4 of the major belts. As an American I would love to see our crop return to what it used to be, but looking into the future, the chance of the Heavyweight division being popular and exciting again is very bleak.

he is out of his prime as them.

and the comment on saying collins aint elite...well if getting dodged rawly by jones was a reason fo you saying he isnt elite. he was the man in the division for 4 years. even if jones was the more known fighter. collins had a rep at super middle.

give me a reason why he should of fought in the states:think
also he has never fought in newbridge so hometown i dont think so

Jones was the man to beat at that time and Collins didnt do it, to be honest I probably didnt follow Collins career as closely as you, but I honestly dont think he did enough to be considered elite, do you think he will make the boxing hall of fame?

When I say backyard I'm not talking about literally there backyard, I think you knew what I meant, Calzaghe rarely fought outside his comfort zone and the crowd was almost always behind him.

You also forgot you have to act like a superior snob towards American fighters.

i dunno i just think that these eastern european fighters have the same ingredients as the 1970's U.S fighters.

    • poor social conditions (always had them but pro boxing was banned)
    • good proffesional training facilities (which ex-soviet states didnt have before until mid 90's)
    • money is accessible (bigger companies especially germany who buy up every 6+ 200+ fighter they can find becuase your sure one of them is gonna make it.
in the U.S it has become a prospect nation. looking for a 'saviour' to expel the unclean of the division. now one prospect at a time is never going to get a clean sheet. but disposing these fighters when they lose is not helping easier.

im sure american promotions are looking for that tyson element. that take no **** attitude and aggresive yet skillful style...but they just arnt looking they are just waiting for the deus ex machina it's unbe****ingleivable

I hear that, even though Sam Peter's from nigeria, he's the closest we got to the Tyson element in the Heavyweight division. Wlad's becoming boring to watch, as well as fighting scared or panicking when trouble comes knocking on his door, Chagaev is a walking illness, who is far from the "White Tyson" in the skills department, no wonder why Tyson demanded he stop using that nickname. As far as fighters coming up, Povetkin's alright, but nothing special, Haye has the personality and the look, but I question his chin when it comes time to take a Heavyweight punch.

In conclusion, as great American fighters are now getting older, it seems like the lack of talent and popularity of boxing is slowly diminishing, now that Mayweathers gone, the future popularity of Boxing dont look too good IMO, theres very few household names left.

No YOU have never heard of them because you are myopic. His resume is not great, it should have been far better and I am not a Calzaghe fan. But Woodhall was the WBC Super Middle Champion. Reid was also a world Champion. Sheika beat Glen Johnson and then fought Calzaghe next, and Calzaghe stopped him.

You class it as "stepping up" because you have heard of Lacy and Hopkins. Which Americans should he have fought between 1997 and 2001?
The other main man was in Germany, not the US. This is the inherent bias I am am talking about. If someone wants to be the man at Super Middle now you would be saying they have to come to the US...

But in actual fact the big names are Calzaghe (British), Kessler (Danish), Bute (Canadian), Mundine (Australian), Froch (British) and Miranda (Colombian).

Only Miranda is fighting out of the US. All the biggest fights are in Europe in this division, and the majority of them from 1997-2001 were too, because neither RJJ or Toney were operating in that division.

Yes I totally agree he should have been fighting someone like Vinny Paz
a blow up lightweight with a broken neck like JJR.

i think we all know how you "feel"..:|

it must be hard, that all the great fights right now dosent have any us fighter involved.
kelly pavlik is a great world champ, but UNITED STATES dosent have all the talented fighters they use to have, and thats a fact.
get over it,and enjoy the upcomming fights.
    AND stop your silly posts.:verysad
