You had Emile Griffith, Dick Tiger, Joey Giardello, Joey Archer, Hurricane Carter, Nino Benvenuti, Sandro Mazzinghi, Luis Manuel Rodriguez, Kim Ki-soo, Gene & Don Fullmer, Freddie Little and an up-and-coming guy named Carlos Monzon, amongst others. I consider these guys to be amongst the greatest group of fighters in boxing history. Do you agree?
Some of them, yes. First time anyone saw or heard of Monzon here was when he was shown knocking out Nino. I knew then and there he would never lose.
It was a strong era. I like Emile and Tiger a lot. Griffith was the man and fought just about everyone.
I don't think Ki-soo or Mazzinghi did anything worth shouting about at160lbs.I agree though very deep era for middles .
Carlos Monzon started his career in February 1963, defeating Ramon Montenegro, would lose to Antonio Augilar, Felipe Cambiero and Alberto Massi in Oct 1964, then went undefeated in his next 82 fights after avenging his three decision losses.
A lot of great contenders and champions, George Benton and Bad Bennie Briscoe, Emile Griffith, Ruben Hurricane Carter and Nino Benvenuti plus several more.
