That's sort of a normal human reaction though, saying something like that to yourself so you think the best of yourself in the circumstances and try to draw sympathy from others.
Yeah, and unfortunately, that's the path they ended up taking - making out that Joey's been struggling in life for the last 10-12 years, suffering depression and ups and downs, etc. and that he's never going to take drugs again, and that he wants to use his experience and position to educate people about the evils of drugs. Then they had testimonials from his brother and Paul Harragon, and Harragon just said a heap of corny ****, ending with "now he's free" as if he's been tortured all these years by his drugtaking. Joey kept saying "I've been so ashamed of my drugtaking" as if he's been in pain all these years - I don't buy that, he's just like any other young bloke out looking for a good time, so part 2 was obviously all about damage control. Still, it was certainly a different approach to this sort of thing.
This **** better not take the gloss off Souths fairytale run to premiership number 21. Anyway, are the telegraph blaming Brian Smith yet?
Certainly jumped the gun there, he's not even in rehab yet, shouldn't make those claims/promises until he's been clean for a bit.
Probably, it's a shame the board crashed. It'd be interesting to dig it back up again. Anyway, this is all a decoy to steal the limelight off the Rabbitohs. :yep Johns is actually innocent. This content is protected
Best thing he could have done was just come totally clean otherwise people would have just duck it all up in time. People still should judge him as a Player and as a Person and as a player he was great but too bad the preasure of fame got to him as it has with all young champs. Tyson, Carey, Ablett, Cousins and now Johns all became powerful at a young age.
Now see man, this interview was aimed at convincing people like yourself, who aren't really on touch with the drug culture, that Joey's been taking drugs all these years due to the pressure of footy and depression. While I respect him infinitely for coming out and admitting to having been taking drugs for so long, I totally disbelieve all that crap he said about the suffering he's experienced and how that drove him to taking drugs. It's kind of funny that you, with your hardline stance on drugs, now respect Johns for coming out and admitting his 'addiction'. That's a pure sympathy tactic. Do you think if he hadn't been arrested he'd be all down and ashamed like he was portraying tonight? Anyone who has been a recreational E user knows EXACTLY what Joey was doing when he's been popping pills all these years - looking for a good time, not trying to escape reality or depression.
na na na dont get me wrong he used drugs and was weak for that but he could have just bullshited and said some like "Yeah i was just going to take that but i have never done it in my past" Most would have said that but least he has the balls to take it on the chin and thats what i respect about him. For doing it in the first place it shows a sign of weakness but when somone is young and promised the world i bet most would crumble like he did and that is no excuse but when offered the world at a young age it is easy to suck someone in.
I'll tell ya what the problem is now right is that all these good doers out there like Mums and dads will be blasting Johns saying He is a bad role model for kids and all this crap and they will take drugs because of him. Well if i ever had a kid who took drugs because of a celeb doing it i would kick my own arse first for being a bad father rather then just blame the celeb. THATS THE PROBLEM WITH THE WORLD TODAY weak parents who haven't got the guts to backhand a kid for doing the wrong thing in todays world. They always want to rage a war on someone else and not take it up with the kids anymore, Always the celebs fault and not the youth Well thats bullcrap. Play violent games, Blood and gore movies this will make you evil BULL**** I'll say this i was raised and taken to movies such as Terminator 2 when i was 5, Robocop 2 and Total Recall and played gory games since i could use my hands but my foks always rasied me and made things clear that things such as Celebs and drugs doesn't give me the damn right to copy them and that i must become my own man and not try and be someone i am not. Drugs in sport is bad but mums and dads are F&*king morons if they think this is the reason kids take up using drugs. How about they take some of the blame rather then push it onto guys like Johns and other celebs
Good post. Its ****ing bull****. I am actually annoyed he has handled it this way. It isn't a big deal, and he could have played it down. Instead he has acted like a hopeless addict. Rubbish. E isn't physically addictive, and he didn't take it because he was depressed. And now all the fools who know nothing about it are acting like he is "cured". Garbage.
Exactly - he started off well, but then lost me when he started saying "I've been so ashamed of my addiction to drugs" total bull****, he's just playing that card to evoke sympathy and, as you say, to make people who have no idea about the drug believe that he was 'addicted' and is now clean.
Yeah of course but least he had the guts to come out and come clean he cover up anything like 99% of them would have. fame and power mate at a young age kills any champion and i dont care who you are when you young and are promised the world and you dont have anyone to watch over you then all hell can fall upon you. This just shows even the best are human but saying he made a mistake is crap he made MANY for 10 years. So this isn't a mistake it was a way of life and thats the problem in that interview is they are acting like it was just a mistake but a mistake is bumping into someone on the street not taking drugs for 10 years
