PW was unable to climb high enough to be considered one of the best, he had the opportunity to prove that but was derailed clearly by one of the B level journeyman then the motorcycle accident derailed his next attempt.

I don't know of any fighter that was actually his size that had even a chance to beat him. Srl and hearns would be the favorites, hearns much more but we are talking 2 atg level fighters that started their careers where fmj ended his.

Fmj was in his prime at 130 to 140, that's the greatest fmj there was. The ww and jmw fmj was a fmj in the Twilight of his career, by the same token hearns and srl were getting tko'd by far lesser opponents.

Nobody is tbe, fmj proved to be tmd, (the most dominant) fighter ever. But no one can claim to be tbe, it's too tough comparing era's and while the fmj everyone remembers and puts in these hypothetical h2h fights isn't close to the best fmj.

The fmj that should be compared to anyone is the 130 to 140 fmj who was nothing short of a beast. He had an unbreakable chin and would put serious beatings on every opponent.

His and skills were so great he was never in any real danger while fighting way out of his weight at ww and jmw.

He's a top 3 favorite of mine but there is no way he could last the distance with ggg, that's the only fighter I know of that just annihilates fmj due to him being so skilled and truly a seek and destroy 160 fighter.

If we had a real mw fmj, the same skills and even same brittle hands I'd see that fight as a pick em fight. They are both once in a lifetime fighters for me and the only 2 I feel that way about.

The 3rd once in a lifetime fighter I see on the horizon, that has the chance to be that ridiculously great is the hw joshua, yup, he has a ways to go but his talent is unmatched and he's proven he has the chin to withstand anything thrown at him. :deal deal floyd's chin was a-class as well. he HAD to be a PERFECT fighter in everyway to end up PERFECT at the end of a 20 year career in 5 different weight classes. trust me, he was tested in every which way a fighter can be tested...mentally, physically, techniically, spiritually...and then some. and he won with ease every time. tbe imo.

We have long been very critical of Floyd, but he is a true great.
What differentiates him from many fighters in history is that he scientifically tries to outpoint you. He knows exactly how to point-score.
If there's less scope for offence, his game is still heavily embedded in maintaining ring generalship.

If I were a boxer who was conscious about wanting to maintain my mental faculties whilst trying to secure a great legacy, I'd 'run' my way to the bank, too.
Is he as good as a Sugar Ray Leonard, Hearns or Napoles? No. But he's one of the very best of all time. There's only a small number of guys I'd pick to beat him with full certainty (as certain as you can be in predicting in boxing) - SRL, Hearns, Napoles, Duran.

I remembered how much I appreciated Floyd as PBF before his 'Money' persona. I like personalities in boxing, and he was the typical trash talker from the hood.
Now his persona is corny and he's impossible to listen to, every interview revolves around kissing his ass, but hey, he's been so busy with his career..he's still finding himself.
I don't agree with his morals, but I didn't start liking him for his morals but his funny personality...and boxers aren't exactly known for being the role model types anyway, we just like the sport.

But appreciation is a little boring tbh.

How could I forget Napoles. I was watching Floyd Mayweather tribute vids on youtube last night and he looks fantastic in them all, then I watched some Pea and Napoles and Floyd didn't seem so amazing after that. That bolo punch of Napoles is fvcing beautiful. Napoles is what I would call 'Super skilled' Floyd is a league below that level of skill but there is no shame in that.
