The great Sugar Ray Leonard vs Frankie Gavin

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by WelcomePaladin2, Nov 8, 2015.

  1. Who wins?

We all know the great offensive skills of Sugar Ray. He was just marvellous. One of the greatest with one of the best resumes. We all know that.

However, he tended to be sloppy, which was evident against terry Norris. Could Frankie use his unbelievable boxing skill to win a lopsided decided? Feather fisted Frankie is not knocking sugar ray out. His only chance is a UD or SD.

If it was a 12 round fight I would go for 8-4 to Gavin. 15 round is a bit hazy with Gavin never fighting at that velocity. I believe Leonard would stop him in the 14th or 15th

    Thoughts.

  2. I must add that I could be totally wrong here & Gavin stops him late if he continues to exploit Sugars sloppiness.

    I doubt it though.

Ps. Sugar ray Leonard is a hero of mine & will go down as the better fighter. No doubt about it. This isn't knocking sugar. It's just fights make styles.

What's next? Kevin Mitchell vs Roberto Duran?

  4. Good match up! A couple of years ago I'd have gave Kevin a real shout. But not anymore. Duran wipes the floor. Easy. Kevin might even have a "no mas" of his own.

  5. Anyone have relevant input?

Maybe you should make a thread about Audley Harrison vs Sonny Liston or David Price vs George Foreman.

    haha:)

  9. Stupid response. Liston wipes the floor with Fraudley in 6 rounds & Foreman knocks down Price with his first big bomb

and i like gavin i backed him againts brook i felt he was a solid underdog keen to see how he comes back now imo he would have beat eggington

  12. I think eggington stops him. I think eggington would use his reach advantage to paw off sugar Ray Leonard as well. Really rate the kid

  13. True! I love Leonard. He was awesome.

But Frankie Gavin is cut from a different cloth. Just needs to achieve his potential now. If he faced Sugar in a 12 rounder, he wins comfortably due to Sugars sloppiness

  14. U might ask, "well why didn't he defeat brook". Fights make styles. Brook is Ray Leonard's worst nightmare. He would pick points at will. He would win 12-0.

Of course Gavin would beat Leonard. All Gavin has to do is land a jab and the ref jumps in with a british stoppage. Gavin tko1 Leonard YEA BABY!!!
