What we know is that he won his first medal at 20-21 years old, I'm sure if the government has not banned pro sports he would had turn professional, all haters point the same thing, he didn't start boxing at 30, he was a teenager when he started to make noise on the international scene, just like every other star in the national team, Robeisi just won a Gold Medal, how old he is? My guess that 10 years from now if he doesn't have the opportunity to leave the country, you will be saying the same thing...
He'd have probably been a very pro HW. The cuban fighters and eastern bloc fighters typically transition from AM to Pro better than American and others do these days, I can't see why they wouldn't have transitioned back then. There's been only a few cuban gold medalists that have turned pro that have been total busts, meaning not competitive at the top level at the least. Doubt he or Savon would have been like a Zou Shiming, who is a 2 time gold medalist, but is obviously horrible in the professional game. Savon is a good shout also, he KO'd some good fighters in the AMs, such as Tua. Stevenson-Ali. Late 70s Ali dropped an L to Leon Spinks, so no reason to think Stevenson wouldn't be a challenge or better than a 70s Ali.
dude.....the 1976 version of Ali was beyond shot.....he had been a pro for 16 years at that point and fought EVERYONE.....
Of course he was. What kind of BS is this? Vysotsky was good but not even near Stevenson, despite his H2H wins in minor tournaments.
Stevenson won almost all his important matches against Milan (i.e. national championships). Or maybe even all national champ fights, I don't know of any losses.
Exactly you can even see from the video or footage that Vysotsky was not near the qaulity of stevenson, stevenson peaked at major tournaments and was unmotivated for these minor tournaments, he would have beaten ali comfortably I feel
It doesnt matter what you think in this matchup, Ali is simply the GOAT whereas Stevenson was just a talented, decorated amateur who won short fights. Ali was in for 15 hard rounds against killers, Stevenson never came near 15 rounds.
atsch thats what they said about rigondeaux right hes a three round fighter! and look hes the best boxer in the world, you believe myths if you train for three olympyics you train everyday the same as the pros or generally harder stevenson could have fought the rounds no problem and was the best boxer of his time amateur or pro
Your wrong mark breland is nowhere near the quality of stevenson and thats what its about, for instance anthony joshua will have trouble at the top of pro boxing when hes matched evenly
