Gomez is the better fighter. But also Calzaghe is more mainstream, so random sarcastic, smug, snobbish comment to prove my boxing knowledge and that i am cool on the internet like El Bujia and Popkins.

General forum is one up, Post-poo Duran KO1 Prime Tyson, newspaper KO1 visual evidence.

That really doesn't make any sense at all.

I understood what he was trying to say. He just seemed to have a lapse of concentration somewhere along the way and said "to hell with it" when he couldn't find a proper way to illustrate his thoughts.

That comment was sharper than this sword:

I think generally he gets underrated as a Featherweight. Sure, he lost to Sanchez but it wasn't a complete embarrassment he really gave Sanchez a very rough ride for the time it lasted and was KO'd by a superb champion, in a fight, that lets be honest, was never going to go the distance.

At Featherweight you could argue he turned in the best performance of his career in completely out-boxing, out-punching and backing up the tough and rugged Juan Laporte, and stunning him repeatedly, and no-one really had a rough ride with Laporte ever, Sanchez and even Pedroza had their hands full with him.

    Good post.

Do you think Gomez was that impressive against Laporte, Greg?.Been a while since i watched it, but i remember him looking shaky on the rare occasions Laporte would actually let his hands go.

Laporte only threw about 5 punches a round and gave maybe a career worst performance. He was often lazy and definitely didn't try like he did against Sanchez or Pedroza.Made it tough to judge how sharp Gomez really was.

Laporte starts off positive and stuns Gomez but Gomez fires back and IMO puts him into a defensive shell, reducing him to being stuck to the ropes looking to counter. I think it was Gomez that made him do this, and that is what impresses me, also his offence looked real sharp.

However, Yeh, you could look at it that Laporte was lazy, but he started off fast which makes me think it was Gomez that dampened him. Anyways its a great fight.

Gomez got hurt a few times by Laporte, but beside that, Gomez beat him so bad he reduced him to a punching bag. He won all bar one or two rounds if you're charitable to Juan.

Overall I'd say it was an impressive performance. Gomez definitely wasn't the sharpest he's ever been, but he pasted Laporte all the same. It's quite a feat to make a guy with a chin like Laporte gun shy....
