ah. thanks for the info.:good i used to get Ring magazine back then and could of sworn most of the experts were picking Chico because of his power and the way he was dispatching opponents.

Mayweather victory over chico. He dominated and stopped him. Chico was a P4P rated fighter. A flawless performance.

They were, picking him....I dont know about the odds, but I seem to recall Chico being the betting favorite...Those things do change and everyone could be right, Hell Chico may have started the fave and floyd could have ended the Fave once the betting stopped...

Dont think anyone's doubting Chico is a better fighter than Kessler.

Do you think there is a bigger difference in class between Floyd and Chico than there is Calz and Kessler?

The question is what's the greater victory, not who beat the better fighter. There are variables that make it closer, age difference being one, Calzaghe was towards the end of his career. I'm sure there are others.

I would have swayed toward Calzaghe if the fight was held in Denmark for example.

I agree with you that it's floyd, but it's close enough to warrant discussion.

Point being at this point is a huge edge for Mayweather based on the fact that Kessler hasnt done anything...Kessler could very well go on to beat Lets say for the point of the topic, Dawson, and Bute and unify the titles at 168 and 175, then it would become a better win for Calzaghe, but what happens if Kessler ends up like Lacy and takes a beatting in one of is next few fights, and loses to every top fighter that he faces, then it would be a pretty worthless win in the end for Joe...Chico will always be a big win for floyd because of who he wasn and what he did before and after his fight with Floyd...So naturally its a bigger win right now for Floyd.

Message to the TS.... you ask some hard questions.

I voted Calzaghe over Kessler but its 50/50, I rate Kessler as a real good fighter, about Corrales level, tho I rate Floyd higher than Calzaghe + Joe was 35 when he beat prime Kessler, Floyd was 23 when he beat prime Corrales, Floyd was never in trouble & Corrales had trouble making weight (the result would be the same for sure in my eyes anyway) & Calzaghe had to constantly adapt throughout vs possibly his best (to that point) ever opponent.
Thats the only reasons I can give as it is so close, hard question.

Corrales was in a bad frame of mind.

No doubt PBF's win was very good but I think Calzaghe, who had to come through a hard fight against a focused opponent takes this one.

PBF totally dominated Corrales, and it's clear that Chico wasn't in the fight from the start. Even now, Corrales seems a superior opponent to Kessler, but resume aside, it's clear that version of Chico had NO chance against PBF, whereas Kessler was very much a 'live' opponent.

While both of you (Bill, and Fleaman) make some good points its really not about who had less problems...Joe having more trouble with Kessler really has nothing to do with which was the greater win...That goes to comparing floyd with Joe and that isnt the topic, its really about comparing Kessler with Chico...And to that end its clearly a bigger win for floyd at this point..You can argue that Chico wasnt in a good frame of mind.....But its not really a valid point being that it was the biggest fight of his career...You can say that he had some problems making weight???But that was really something that was manufactured after the fact, Chico even admitted that he didnt have anymore trouble making weight then he had in his last few fights...The one argument that I can make is that Kessler simple isnt that good, and while many wont agree its really within each of us to feel one way or the other because Kessler really is unproven. Outside of a win over Mundine, and Andrade Kessler hasnt done much and those guys are really only viable fighters and not elite fighters as Chico was...Kesselr fans spend much time tring to convice others that the guys that he fought could beat this guy and that guy...Truth is if Kessler was fighting this guy and that guy it would be pointless to argue the point....

At the moment its PBF-Chico, the complete domination of PBF that night is something to behold, Chico was an absolute beast at 130.

The two wins aren't that far apart at the moment and if Palle and Kessler stop ****ing around and they sort their **** out, get Kessler in the ring with the top guys then the Cal win could overtake that.

    Both great performances :thumbsup

Chico was about as proven as Kessler if not more. Not to mention he knocked Roberto Garcia the hell out with one shot and had just knocked out Gainer, Jukko and Manfredy. Mayweather won every round and damn near broke a sweat that night. Even though Calzaghe was the clear winner he wasn't as dominate.

I reckon Calzaghe's win was the greater mainly because Chico didn't turn up, Kessler certainly did and Joe had to completely change his tactics on the night as he was getting a beating. He was extremely brave that night. Mayweather simply destroyed Chico, no easy feat but the greater victory was Calzaghe's.

I have only seen Calz vs Kess so i cant vote! But what Joe did in that fight was quite impressive! not only was Kess the stronger man, he did allso have the skills to win.. But he was simply out-smarted and cluless when Calz start to change style! It was a great win cuz Joe was under pressure when he shift tactic!

Yeah i'd agree with that . But is still think a triumph over adversity is a greater win than Floyd's complete domination where he was never in trouble. Not saying it wasn't a great win , it was.
Calzaghe's win over Kessler was pretty extraordinary really in the way that it seemed like the fight was gonna be lost in an extremely painful way, he was getting pretty messed up but found a way to win against the odds.

Personally, I would actually give this to Calzaghe. If you are talking about best performance then it goes to Mayweather clearly, but for best win I'd say Calzaghe as I think Kessler is a better fighter than Corrales was. I know that Chico was p4p#5 at the time and I know he has a lot of fans, but I personally never rated him very highly. This is a very close call as they were both great wins, but I give Joe C a slight edge as a win.
