I don't even think this was the case, I pretty vividly remember Chico being odds again between 7/5 and 9/5 though this was very close for Mayweather. Of course, to say Corrales was expected to walk through him is ridiculous and either a revision of history or coming from someone who wasn't a fan of the sport at the time.

Mayweather-Corrales. Chico was just far more proven than Kessler.
However Kessler could go far if Palle dosen't screw his career up so Calzaghes victory could gain in worth over time.

I hope you're kidding here.

Underdog knocks down the favorite five times en route to a victory without losing a round.

vs.

Favorite wins a decision after some early competition against a decent but still green title holder.

Hmmmm.

as a side note i love the avatar... it's completely deceptive, showing what appears to be MAB battering Hamed but it is in fact Hamed dodging a big shot

I'am not "hating". Iam simply making a case for one instead of the other. I can easily defend Mayweather's win over Corrales. Iam one of Joe's biggest critics and this is my first time ever defending him on this board. It's not as cut and dry as you think.

Mayweather Jr. over Corrales is the better win, IMO.
(Both fighter's at the top of their game)

Corrales being more established than Kessler at the time of their fight's.
(Plus the impact of Floyd's victory over Diego really helped solidify PBF's status)
WTF????? IMHO what Kessler had done prior to the Calzaghe fight at least ======= what Corrales had done prior to Mayweather. Admittedly some of Chico's later wins (Castillo and Casamayor - even though both beat him at least once) give him the edge as a name on Floyd's resume at the moment, coupled with the dominant nature of the performance. However, I think we should wait until the end of Kessler's career before we start comparing who achieved more.
Mundine is to this day the best fighter that Kessler has beat...That isnt impressive...Stop to think Chico was 23 at the time of the fight and had already just as good a resume as Kessler at age 28 which is how old he was when he fought Calzaghe....

I have been saying that all along, We dont know what kessler will do in his upcoming fights...I tend to believe that he wont do as much as Chico did, for three reasons...1) he will be 30 before his next fight 2)Kessler seem to have a history of injury 3)I feel a fight coming with Team Palle which could cause him to lose time in the ring.

Although i agree for the most part, it isn't really a good idea to target what Corrales had done before the Mayweather fight, because he hadn't really beaten any quality fighters at that point.
I agree Floyd over Corrales is the better win when you consider how highly rated Corrales was at that time and the dominating manner in which he did it, but this isn't true. Mayweather was the favourite with Chico in the region of 7/5 to 9/5, though a very live underdog. PBF was also higher p4p, that I am sure of.

Neither he nor Kessler were unproven, I am always amazed when I hear some idiot trying to describe a multiple world champ with wins over a number of top ten fighters as unproven. Corrales had wins over Garcia, John Brown, Gainer and Manfredy, Kessler had beaten Siaca, Mundine, Beyer, Lucas and Andrade, how proven do people want?
Dude come on...Siaca was a bum who lost to every top fighter he faced except the second guy on Kesslers list in Mundine...Beyer and Lucas:patsch....Its pretty hard to pump up Kessler resume..I guess you see what ever you want to see...I see those fighters as being not very good. But using the fighters that you listed

Garcia = Mundine
Brown > Siaca
Gainer > Lucas
Manfredy < Andrade

You could say the same about Brown if you were being harsh. I don't see him as any better than Siaca who at least held a world title. And plus there's the three round flattening of Beyer to contend with. But there you go, to my mind those guys are at least the equivalent of what Corrales had fought prior to Mayweather. I take the point about him being in his early 20s at the time, but then an argument exists to say he hadn't reached his physical prime whereas Kessler definitely had.

All much of a muchness at the end of the day I suppose...

all depends on what kessler achieves in the future to how great that win was,at the moment pretty even but if kessler dominates smw and then goes on to dominate lhw( which i think he will if he stops fighting bums)then the calzaghe v kessler win will be a better win.

Clearly PBF's win. Kessler was top what? Beat who?
