I always enjoy watching this original biopic of Muhammad Ali,starring the great man himself, over the later bigger budget Will Smith version. Has anyone else, though, spotted one continuity error in it ? In the film there's a montage of some of Muhammad's fights between the Buster Mathis one and the first Ken Norton bout. Now,the fight prior to Norton I was the first go with Joe Bugner. In the film they threw in the SECOND Bugner fight.
I think ive seen this years ago.The part i remember a old lady called ali a ******.Quite shocking, even more shocking it was on a sunday afternoon!!
"The Greatest" was cool for 1977....... Roger E. Mosley was great as Sonny Liston..... Ali also did a good job with his acting, etc.... I have this flick on tape.......... MR.BILL
Of course it was nothing new famous heavyweights flirtation with the silver screen, Ali also did something called Freedom Road, a mini series as i recall, And Ken Norton did The Mandingo Films, (I can imagine Ali telling Norton "Ï can whip you at acting too.." Some time earlier Sonny Liston did a film called moonshine, Joe Frazier did a guest spot on the trucking series Moving on ( i think it was called,) and George Foreman and Jerry Quarry appeared in an episode of the six million dollar man , and er...Jack O'Hallaron appeared in quite a few things, there were others of course.
Entertaining,,,,,,, But the scene in Denver, with Cassius visiting Sonny was 'untrue'. It was a complete publicity stunt with both fighters setting it up. After it was filmed and photo's taken by the press, Sonny and his wife Geraldine invited Cassius and his entourage in for a late night 2:00 AM Dinner. Sonny had to tell Cassius to slow down while eating his Fried Chicken, and said to Cassius that he was eating like he was late for a funeral.
Cool! So Ali and Liston got along when away from the public? Also, I loved seeing James Earl Jones playing Malcolm X. His voice was way too deep for that character.
Ernest Borgnine was good as Angelo Dundee too. I was surprised that Angelo did n't portray himself as so many others did in the film. Such as - Bundini Brown Rahaman Ali Jimmy Ellis Howard Bingham To name a few.
While in Denver in November 1963 Cassius Clay 'stiffed' the Hotel he was staying at for $56. Never made the film.
November 1964 While in Boston - Sonny Liston and Cassius Clay had a closed session 'fight', with only each fighter's camp attending. Sonny landed a left hook that collapsed Cassius' insides. He was rushed to hospital, where he was told to stay out of the ring for 4-months. This content is protected
