How many times have you heard the phrase "This is a 50/50 fight!" or "This is a pick 'em fight"? Lots right. Well those fights which look close on paper hardly ever turn out that way in the ring. What fights can you think of were 50/50 fights before entering the ring and transpired to be close?
An even odds fight, I can only recall Bowe-Holyfield in November 1992 and it wasn't close after six. There have been fights with slight favourites and live underdogs ( such as 2-1 odds) like Hoya-Mayweather, Cotto-Mosley, Pavlik-Taylor, Guzman-Soto, Marquez-Vasquez, Williams-Margarito... but none were that close. I remember about Valuev-Chagaev as the one that was expected to unfold the way it did. I guess most people say that it's a 50/50 fight to favour the chances of the fighter they support and is not really expected to win...
Marquez vs Vasquez 1 Trinidad vs Vargas I know Vargas got decked 5 times but it was still a competitive fight. One of my all time favs.
