I believe what I see, Robinson was the best overall fighting machine... Pep was the best boxer... Greb might have been the best swarmer & even fighter but I ain`t taking other people`s opinions over what I`ve seen with my own eyes. Record (or resume if you like) only tells a part of the story, its not the be all :good
Robinson has the best of both worlds. He doesn't necessarily need to have the greatest resume of all-time even though it's still hysterically astounding in it's own right.
Do you not think a greater fighter existed, perhaps one with victories numbering a hundred and fifty or more, or who faced stronger opposition?
Faced stronger opposition? Robinson had more fights but Ali faced the better fighters Quality>Quantity
Yeah mate, course he did. In the eyes of most Ali followers even Chuck Wepner is a 'name' opponent :yep I wasn't talking about Robinson anyway, or anyone in particular. Still, his list of rated contenders is numerically superior to Ali's by far, and the quality is fairly even, especially considering the fact that Robinson, like Ali, was ageing when he regained the title several times, or that LaMotta was clearly bigger, or that he fought more often, etc...
Greatest: 01. Greb 02. Langford 03. Robinson 04. Armstrong 05. Charles Best: 01. Duran 02. Robinson 03. Pep 04. Whitaker 05. Armstrong . . . 01. Robinson 02. Armstrong 03. Greb 04. Langford 05. Duran :happy
:conf Based on who's list? You'd be likely to find Armstrong, Gavilan, LaMotta and Basilio on quite a few. How many fighters have wiped out as many rated contenders over the last 90 years? How many have beaten 10 IBHOF/WBHOF fighters a total of 21 times? Achieved a peak record of 128-1-2 (84)? It's not a conspiracy.
Im not saying its a conspiracy all i am saying is that most of those fights are against people that aren't worth mentioning. Being in the HOF doesn't make you a good fighter seeing as nobodies can get in
