Wilde. Lewis (kid) Lewis (canadian) Calzaghe Britains first world heavy weight champion then the rest are all much of a muchness. Naz and Eubank were never even the best in their own divisions.
Conteh was clearly the most capable and talented fighter we've ever produced. Greatest? Lennox for me. Wilde can be argued but when a flyweight aficionado can barely find any reputable opponents from his ring record then it's hard to really gauge his how great he was. Obviously he scores high for P4P achievements and beat some incredible bantams. Alan Rudkin probably fought the greatest competition. No, scratch that, he did.
Naz was the best in his division. Don't try and argue that Juan Manuel Marquez was at that time please.
I've seen an interview with him in the Ring where he says, and I can't quote it exactly without the issue to hand but it was basically "there aren't many Jamaican fighters, except me, Glenn Johnson and Mike Mccallum" which strenghtens the argument he picks whichever background serves his purpose at the time.
I can argue pretty easily. He is not the greatest British boxer in any way, shape or form. Certainly one of our more formidable stylists though.
Calzaghe's level of opponents will always be his downfall and as for him retiring undefeated? it means nothing to me. With Calzaghe I always feel its a case of What he could have achieved instead of What he actually achieved.
**** me, that's a good post. Honey - Curry is the stuff of legend. Benn, yes, a warrior. John Conteh I don't know enough about. ****ing great post.:good:good:good
Lennox and Ted Kid Lewis are the greatest for me. Jackie Kid Berg always gets overlooked though, if somebody had the equivalent wins today as Bergs wins over Chocolate and Canzoneri people would be talking about them as the GOAT.
True but Berg was a horrible stylist to watch His victories over Chocolate are particularly impressive.
Conteh was one of the most naturally gifted British boxers I have seen. Always felt he could and should have achieved more.
