Eugene Criqui,Featherweight champ...Had his chin shot off by a bullet in World War 1...Had it reconstructed with METAL and became 126 lb champ...Criqui, truly had an IRON CHIN...
You guys are a bunch of unoriginal turds. Where are the obscure shot outs? Where's the spark for new discussion? Where's the shout out for Jack Britton, a man who fought into his mid 40's when your early 30's were a death sentence to a fighter of that day and age? A man with 350 total bouts? What about Sandy Saddler? Gorilla Jones? I am disappointed in you classic! :-tired:tired
OK, here's an obscure choice: JAVIER VARGUEZ. He took shot after titanic shot from Michael Carbajal and Ricardo Lopez and hardly even blinked.
R ,Sandy Saddler was kod once in 1944 by Jock Leslie, a fighter who I saw MSG in a prelim bout....Jock Leslie, a tough blond fighter was in turn stopped by Willie Pep in 1947... P.S. I agree with you about the immortal boxer Jack Britton, who fought 344 fights at least in 26 year career and was stopped just ONE time, EARLY in his career...Why is he so forgotten today, when 40 bouts entitles you to alltime consideration these softer days ? Not a Leonard, Roy Jones or other alltime "greats" could have fought so often and so long and dodged the bullet of a knockout...Remarkable...But today, records are meaningless and " the latest is the greatest " mentality rules....
Well, Britton was only stopped once in his career, in his second fight. s green as a fighter gets. If you hold Saddler's only stoppage against him (Which also was in his second fight, strangly) then the same applies to Britton, Armstrong, and others. Including Greb. Armstrong was actually stopped in his first pro fight. See a pattern? :scaredas:
Never heard of him... Going to have to research the man now. Thanks for the mention/contribution. :hey:good
Sugar Ray Robinson is always overlooked in these discussions. A welter who fought loads of top quality middleweights while in his 30s, fought almost 200 fights, never KOd or TKOd by an opponent. Only "stopped" in 1 fight against the light-heavyweight champion and that was heat exhaustion not punch damage. That's a more proven chin than almost anybody.
True to all above... Those knockouts are meaningless... Armstrong was stopped by Fritzie Zivic in 1941 when Henry was only 29 years old...
I gotta go with Hagler. Its not just that he was never knocked down by punches, except for that slip, but the fact that he seemed entirely unaffected by them.
