There is no way to definitively measure the skills of two boxers of different eras. Such a comparison would always have a good degree of subjectivity. That is why most folks compile their lists ( if they have such lists) on what fighters actually did, as opposed to what they might possibly have done. In other words, resume.

And my lists, when I dabble in them at all, are based mainly on resume and achievement, but I also consider the eye-test, how the fighters looked to me. This is obviously a bit of challenge with boxers like Greb, as there doesn't appear to be any footage of him actually fighting, but we do have his resume and the accounts of those present at the time.

To illustrate, I rank Vitali Klitschko as a top ten head-to-head HW, based on what I saw of him during his career and how I speculate other HWs would have done against him.

However, I have him on the cusp of the top twenty all-time as a HW boxer, based on what he actually did.

The second ranking is a bit less subjective than the first as it is less speculative in nature.

Yes of course it's going to be subjective but that's how it's always going to be. It's speculative. Sure resume and achivement is needed when comparing but it also has to be in the context of the respective eras the fought in.

50/50 fight here ladies and gents, I can see Floyd's defense frustrating the heck out of Ray, can Ray pull this off? Could Floyd get this stoppage via his right hand?

Floyd stoppage via his right hand perhaps if said hand was wrapped around a baseball bat. Look who SRR was in with and he was never KOed. Only stoppage loss was due to heat exhaustion.

Ray was bigger, faster, stronger, hit harder and had more experienced. Floyd would discover that there's another rung on the greatness ladder that he never knew about, and there's people like Ray Robinson, Duran, and Armstrong who live there
