Will always go with the FOTC as my choice for greatest fight ever. The buildup was to this day unlike anything I've ever seen since. EVERYBODY was talking about it--even folks who didn't know a thing about boxing had an opinion! It was a social referendum at a turbulent time in our history.

Regarding the fight itself--two undefeated all-time great fighters with totally contrasting styles. Frazier was at his peak. Ali had rust from his long layoff but he was still a formidable opponent--(as the early rounds show.) It was an absolute war--both fighters fought gallantly and battled like it was life or death. As impossible as it seemed-it not only lived up to the hype-it SURPASSED it!!

I encourage ANYONE who was not alive back in 1971 or too young to remember it to watch this fabulous documentary about that fight. And for those who DO remember, I recommend it even more!! It will take you right smack dab back to those times!! (You may need to search for "Ali Frazier One Nation Divisible" documentary on YouTube-might not play directly from this thread.)

Pryor vs Arguello 1 wasn’t too shabby. :D

I remember one writer saying at the time that it was similar to the Thrilla but with combatants scaled down in size.

    There are lots of candidates.

My favorite fight is Gomez-Pintor followed by Marquez-Vazquez 3.

When I first saw Ali-Frazier 3 I was taken aback by the violence and ferocity.

Marvin Hagler has 4 highly entertaining bout, the first Antuoformeo one, the Hearns one, the Roldan one and the Mugabi one.

The first Frazier-Ali and Dempsey vs/ Firpo were visceral brutality become men.

Pryor-Arguello 1 had the element of history to it and two super well trained fighters going at it for 14 rounds non stop, while Saad Muhammad-Lopez 2 was just non stop action and then you have the three Gatti-Ward and you have the three Barrera-Morales fights, the dramatic fights of Corrales-Castillo and Chavez-Taylor 1. Sugar Ray Leonard's two classics with Hearns and his first memorable fight with Duran and Barkley-Duran...

And Carbalal-Gonzales 1 with all the knockdowns, and the surreal Anaya-Taylor 1 fight in South Africa.

There are all types of colors and flavors to choose from but when it comes down to it, the Ali-Frazier punch festivals are definitely candidates!
