    In today's world, it should be analyzed by looking at the Ring Magazine rankings as the only real title..although its still not perfect !

    The same question could be asked in a few years only using the RING as a reference !

    Langford, although he did claim to be the Light-Heavyweight champion after defeating Philadelphia Jack O'Brien in 1912. Still, everyone around the weight was claiming the title at the time, and his claim for whatever reason 2wasn't taken as seriously as those of the likes of Jack Dillon or Battling Levenski.

    Burley, Jim Driscoll (who is probably an even better choice for best British fighter never to win the world title), Les Darcy, Jimmy Bivens, Holman Williams, and Billy Graham also warrant mention.

    Lew Tendler and Joe Choynski should be added, but I think Sam Langford is the best.

    wildcard bernard taylor highly skilled boxer and had maybe the biggest amatuer career of all time went pro late and his age caught up with him in almost no time at all
