The greatest filmed trilogy of all time? Or does history have something to compare?

    Vasquez-Marquez.

Highlights from their outstanding first fight.

And their second, certainly the superior of Ali-Frazier II

The third, but perhaps not final fight. Round 4 may be the best in the history of the sport.

Do Graziano and Zale stand the comparison?

Vasquez runs out at the beggining of the 12th in the third fight. The terible, terrible punishment that Marquez takes in that round, refusing to take the knee that would cost him the point, is as brave as anything I have seen in the ring.

The "Boxing is Dead" Brigade need to watch this footage very very carefully in my opinion.

Marequez vs Varquez is a great trilogy, which goes without saying, but Frazier vs Ali was better in my opinion. Their first and third fight were two of the greatest fights of all time.

But II is filler, and III is not particulalry close.

This trilogy has NO filler, all three fights are extraordinary.

But their first fight is better than any of the fights in the Vasquez vs Marquez trilogy in my opinion. Manilla was also gvery competitive until the last couple of rounds, and then Ali started to tee off with his right han. I suppose it is just objective, but I prefer Ali vs Frazier and Morales vs Barrera. For me, a great fight is not just the result of great action, it's the entire thing; Build up, quality of both fighters, significance, etc.

I think this trilogy has a good case in terms of all three fights being great. Morales-Barrera 1 is my fave fight, Ali-Frazier 1 is brilliant also, and the third.

Vazquez and Marquez are absolute warriors, so great this trilogy.

I think that Ali-Frazier I and Ali-Frazier III and these three fights are all in the same extraordinary class.

But Ali-Frazier II is NOT in that class. In all honesty, I probably won't ever watch that fight again, i've seen it twice. Didn't Futch count the clinches and come up with a number close to 300?

If you are including build up and significance and all that there, then that trilogy is superior. In purely boxing terms I feel that it is markedly inferior.

On the subject of trilogies, i thought Barney Ross-Jimmy McLarnin 3 was a very good, even great fight, does any1 know if the first 2 are filmed, i dont think so,

All three are filmed. I've got 10 minute clips of the first two fights and I've heard that there's actually a 20 minute clip of the second fight. Can't confirm that though unfortunately.

Oh and as for the greatest filmed trilogy, I'd have to say Bernard Hopkins vs. Robert Allen.

But should Bernard find a way to rematch Taylor one more time, I'm sure that could clinch it. :D

Sure am teeto. It's one of my favourite old time fights. I've got more than half an hour on film and the quality is fantastic. Ross takes control of the fight with his supreme skills, but Jimmy stays game throughout and bounces some heavy punches off of Barney's jaw. Ross really had a great chin. Probably his most underrated feature.

Havent watched it for a while, thats how i remember it though, Ross boxing and Jimmy was quite agressive, always been one of my faves. You know them old boxing magzines with the numbered videos? I have the fight on one of them, bought it when i was a nipper from some market stall, bargain!

ali-frazier III was so boring......two overweight way over the hill fighters. If you find that exciting, you might as well go to your nearest retirement home and pay to watch two old geezers fire away at eachother.

the only very good fight of ali-frazier trilogy was the first one, the other two are very boring to me.

marquez-vasquez is the one of the best

    MAB-morrales one of the best

its a shame castillo couldnt make weight, because i feel corrales-castillo trilogy which would have happened would have been amazing.

I might add also the first two fights of casamayor-castillo trilogy were very exciting, when both were young primes.

    bowe-holyfield was very entertaining

You're totally off on that comment.

Ali vs Frazier 3 is probably the greatest Heavyweight fight of all time, behind only their first meeting. The action is feirce, and there was still a lot of quality work shown by both combatants. There was never a more brutal great fight than that one.

Agreed, Ali vs Frazier II flat-out sucks.

Of heavyweights only, i'd go for Bowe-Holyfield. Every single one of them was fantastic, and both were closer to their primes than Ali and Frazier were.

I haven't seen the Marquez Vasquez trilogy yet, but i've seen the latest one and it was one of the best fights i've ever seen.

    Honorable mention: Holyfield vs Ruiz.
