That's always hard to watch again. Also how did Benn survive in there? He took some terrible punishment a brutal fight.

Well, I think you have a point to this extent, that Fitzsimmons said that he did deliberately start going for early KO's 'cause he didn't want to dish out extended beating like he gave to NP Dempsey.

In his middleweight years Fitszimmons did administer crushing KO's to Jim Hall, Arthur Upham and Dan Creedon. Peter Maher lasted longer when Fitz hurt his hand, but Bob still compelled Peter to quit. (Of course, Fitzsimmons quickly stopped Maher in their rematch a number of years later).

I think it should also be said that, in the case of N P Dempsey, beating an elite guy to a fricking pulp at least shouldn't count against Bob being a big puncher.

I would have like to see footage of Smith. He was a big MW, for sure.

I normally credit Ketchel with this, but i could be wrong seen as though he hasn't had as many shout outs as i expected here.

Why? If a fighter lands mulitple flush power punches on an opponent and can't knock him out that tells me something about his power.

    Or Robinson-LaMotta?

    Or Foreman-Ali?

  8. How do people rate Nigel benns power , I realise hes certainly not the greatest puncher , but he certainly was a danerous puncher to be ranked with some of the best surely ?

    Bump

Nigel Benn hit as hard as any middleweight, ever, with either hand, back in the late '80s. Into the '90s he shortened everything, became a better fighter, but lost some of his one shot power.

  10. yeh he certainly wasnt the puncher he once was at middleweight when he moved up to super middleweight

Nigel Benn's highlight reel isn't actually that far off being as impressive as Mike Tyson's, even if his competition was a bit subpar in the early days.

    Best knockout: Benn KO2 Logan.

  12. Benn KO1 Chantler is a classic youl always see in a Benn highlight reel , guys like Benn dont come around so often

Oh yeah, Chantler, that's the bob-weave-bob-right hand bloke ain't it? That's all it took.
