What is the greatest British bill you have ever seen or been to? Or/and what is on paper, British boxing's best bill?

The best night i've had was the Hatton/Magee Bill. Probably not the best but I was a big follower of Farnell when I was young as he is from my local town so watching him, Hatton, Gomez and jennings on the same bill was good and only 1 of 3 times I saw them together. More to do with the atmosphere though to be honest.
And I know i'll get ripped for this but the Khan/Khotelnik Bill was pretty good too, and was top when he won :good

benn v collins in machester was good...sugarboy malinga was on the bill....so was steve foster {an old favourite of mine} against chris pyatt, and i was among a crowd of viking helmets...also got to see herbie hide in action on that bill...michael brodie boxed that night too...

but, if i could submit an irish night...lennox lewis v ****** fortune...the bill wasnt the best underneath, but a special night for me to see a heavyweight champ box in ireland {although he was between reigns for that fight}, fortune fair play to him came to fight...a mate of mine vinny feeney was on the undercard and afterwards introduced me to another irish boxer, a big big feller named kevin mcbride who had earlier won an absolute borefest...i said to him for fun 'ah, one day you'll be fighting tyson kev' and he said 'ah jesus...wouldnt that be something'...mickey cantwell was on the bill...and another boxer i used to follow, former british super feather champ pj gallagher..

naseem hamed in dublin was a good night too...he had a tough fight against manuel medina....the undercard was huge...had the likes of danny williams, robin reid, michael carruth, nate miller, tom johnson.....and i got to meet floyd patterson :)

but best of all nights i was at was bernard dunne v cordoba...the whole night was the best i ever seen at a fight...it was like a celebration of irish boxing...it was a unique night of pro's and am's...and katie taylor womens champ...and it worked so so well....the am's had great fights early in the night...jim rock had his final fight...andy murray ebu lightweight champ...andy lee had tough work in his fight...but, then we had one of the greatest battles ever witnessed in an irish boxing ring, which i dont need to tell anyone about here.....but i do need to tell you about the atmosphere, it was like every man, woman and child that night won something, the crowd were so behind dunne that you would have to be there to understand, there was huge huge energy from the crowd that night, and i believe it helped dunne win..

anyway....sorry if i went off topic with irish nights instead of british

I have been lucky enough to go to most of the big bills from McGuigan/Pedroza though to that great week, where we went The Arms Park for Lewis/Bruno then 50 million foot up in the air, for Benn/EubankII.

But the one I remember best is Lewis/Ruddock, when my mate got chased by Lou Duva and his entourage after spotting him as we left and ripping the **** out of him, after Taylor lost.

The bills from the Lewis/Bruno/Eubank/Benn era seem far better than the ones we see today.

IMO too often we see only good fighters, not good fights.

Quite often there will be two 10-0 (or similar) kids at the same weight fighting journeymen..... why not stick them in with each other for an area title?

I agree but promoters are paranoid, which is rubbish, because if both fighters are good enough a defeat sometimes does a fighter a power of good.

A recent example would be the rather excellent Southern Area 122lbs title fight between the then 9-0 Spencer Oliver and the 10-0 Patrick Mullings.

Oliver won a British fight of the year candidate, and within a year was fighting and beating former World title holder Fabrice Benichou. But for his accident, Oliver may of gone on to be a British star.

Mullings may of lost to Oliver, but made himself known to mainstream boxing fan, and went on a excellent run, that saw him become a legitimate top European 122lber for a short period. And even when past his best, he was still good enough to compete with the best Britain and Europe had to offer at the weight.

Both Mullings and Oliver jumped a level in one night, that made both of them players in their division.

That's why it's a shame (IMO) that Hayemaker have gone by the wayside.

Appleby vs Lindsay was a 'risky' fight to make for both them and Tommy Gilmour, but it was made, and was a lesson for Appleby to learn. I'd put the house on him learning more from that fight than he would from an easy defence against a shot super bantam such as Michael Hunter.
