LMAO. i've seen 10 years worth of boxing and watched pretty much every significant historic fight on replay. 3 years out of the ring to school Wilder & get up from that and FIGHT BACK Amazing. Sorry it wasn't Floyd sucker punching Ortiz or Liston taking his dive in the 2nd Ali fight, one of the most iconic sporting pictures and it was a man purposefully staying down on the canvas. Terrible.
I respect that it would be someones greatest boxing moment. For me its definitely in a top 20 grouping.... but I cant really single any one moment out and say its the best. Too many monumental moments, for me. But I can see why someone would have it near or at their top.
Certainly this will always be in the conversation about "greatest boxing moments" just like Holmes getting up against Shavers. And it deserves to be.
For me, I think it would be Archie Moore getting up from four knockdowns to KO Durelle. Or maybe that crazy left hook from hell Robinson floored Fullmer with? Old Ali knocking out young Foreman? Jorge Castro on the brink of being knocked out turning a one sided fight around with one punch against John David Jackson? Juan Manuel Marquez getting up from three knockdowns and a broken nose to dominate Pacquiao? Martinez sleeping Paul Williams with one shot? Marquez sleeping Pacquiao? Mike Tyson running through Michael Spinks in under a minute? Joe Louis battering Schmeling likewise. Maybe, Danny Williams knocking out Potter with his dislocated shoulder? Or Dempsey climbing back into the ring to KO Firpo? Foreman's hail mary punch to Moorer's temple? Douglas beating Tyson? Tyson biting Holyfield's ears off?
That has to be right up there for me! Particularly since I was one of, like, two or three people on this site to predict that Fraudley's glass jaw would be shattered by the light-hitting Sprott. And guess what? The same blind fanboys and glass jaw deniers disputed the clear signs that Fraudley had a fragile mandible. Just like they do Wilder today!
I'm uneasy about the whole knockdown. You say about Liston purposefully staying down but I feel like Fury did just that. You even see him go to get up a second before he does. Whole thing seemed weird.
Another thread about how barely surviving a fight with Wilder is an ATG achievement. Gotta love these Wilder fans!
