I disagree that pep resume is on the level of langford, charles and greb, its quite short in my opinion, he never proved himself above feather and only has 1 big name on his resume saddler, his pure weight of victories helps no doubt but not enough imo
Career record: 66 wins (63 by KO) and 4 losses (2 by KO). Started career winning first 23 matches by KO. He had a points win in 24th bout, then strung a further 28 wins in a row by KO. So, after 52 matches his unbeaten record included 51 wins by KO (plus the 1 on points)! Retired with only two losses (the last one for his world title in a contested points decision). Came back. Strung some wins together, then lost his last two bouts. Name: CARLOS ZARATE (Mexico) Career record: 66 wins (63 by KO) and 4 losses (2 by KO).
actually pep beat some damm good lightweights. as for "1" big name on his resume, i disagree. Albert Chalky Wright and Manuel Ortiz first ballot hall of famers are both big names. peps title reign throughout the 1940s was the arguebably the best title reign in the divisions history. willie pep throughout an entire decade beat EACH AND EVERYONE of the top rated contenders and he did so clearly and cleanly. his era at 126 was very strong too.
while I think charles was past his prime, ill take the june 1954 ezzard charles easily over anyone of dempseys victims in a h2h fight. you seem to be a big dempsey supporter.
Yeh I menioned him earlier along side Holman Williams, Marshal has an excellent resume from Charles, Moore, Williams, Burley, Bivins, Maxim and LaMotta not to mention many others.
I agree; one of the best. He was nearly unbeatable at bantam. Absolutely a brilliant fighter who sometimes gets overlooked.
