The Greatest Showings Of Bravery...

Sadly, the biggest badge of honour in this category is the guys that left it all in the ring, or rather lost it all in the ring.

Courage bought about the demise of many champions over the years. Two that stick in my memory are:

1/ Johnny 'The Match Stick Man' Owens in his bout against Lupe Pintor - tremendous courage and just plain tragic.

2/ Benny Paret in his bout against Emile Griffith - okay Paret baited and annoyed Griffith but the end was shocking, and shown on live TV in the US. Plus the referee's performance was absolutely disgraceful!!

 

If you are talking about Goldstein - at lease he lived to tell his tale!

Watch the video again and offer a single positive suggestion about how he's performing his job in the last minute or so of the bout - the fatal minute!

I would have had a heart attack too once I realised what I'd just been a part of!

 

Joe Frazier fighting a lot of his career nearly blind in one eye.

Getting bounced against Foreman and repeatedly getting back up.

In the last rounds of the Thrilla in Manilla Frazier was pretty much blind in his left eye and couldn't see Ali's shots coming but continued on and wanted to finish the fight although his corner had it stopped.

 

Caveman Lee staying on his feet against LoCicero impresses me greatly.

Dook Koo Kim as previously mentioned, that fight was ****ing insane. Watching Willard get up for Dempsey is hard to watch.

 

gotta be lamotta vs robinson in their final fight. jake took a horrible ass kicking refusing to go down.

 

Good choice! You could see the agony on Gatti's face, the commentators didn't think he would make it, and he not only gets up, but actually fights back later in the round and then wins the 10th!

 

Some of the most exciting and underrated fights those ones. I liked both fighters a lot for heart and thrills.

 

I don't think anyone mentioned Ali fighting Ken Norton in their 1st bout with a broken jaw for 10 rounds until the final bell.

 

Holmes vs Witherspoon round 9

Close to being ko'd but he lasted on guts and willwpoer alone and even won the later part of that round.

 

I would say Ezzadr Charles in his first fight with Rocky Marciano.

 

10th round of Holyfield-Bowe 1

 

Probably because fighters have suffered broken jaws and won fights. No one knows for sure when it was broken either. Yeah, it'd have been just typical of Ali saying "oh, that, yeah, it was the beginning of round 12". :yep

 

how about Gerald McLellan taking the count against Benn

he knew he would be called a coward and whatever but he knew he was in danger so he sat it out
