This is basically a thread where I dump my thoughts on certain boxers and make a case for them being the goat. It's basically a research thread for my revamp of the top 100 which I'm working on

    Criteria (roughly)

    Résumé (50%)
    Longevity (15%)
    Movement of Weights (20%)
    Achievements (25%)

I believe theres no film on Maxie either. Obviously no power and from what little I've read not too much of a crowd pleaser either. Impressive record though

    Greb the GOAT

The most incredible résumé in boxing history imo, and I doubt it will ever be beat with the way boxing is going.

He virtually dominated both 160 and 175 division in probably the best era ever, top 3 at least. He has 4 wins over top 20/25 pfp fighters by my own list and was only KOed twice in 298 fights.

His top 5 wins are imo

    1. Gene Tunney
    2. Tommy Loughran
    3. Mickey Ward
    4. Maxie Rosenbloom
    5. Tommy Gibbons

HMs, Kid Norfolk, Mike Gibbons, Tiger Flowers
    http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/9019

He had 300 fights in 13 years, I personally would count that as ATG longevity because if you put that many rounds in context against that good opposition then not many other could do it

Greb's biggest Knock is the lack of footage.

He makes my list at no.2

    Rosenbloom the Goat

He has imo top 3 Longevity ever, he had in 296 fights in 16 years according to Boxrec. in that time he won the LHW title and beat names such as

    Ted Kid Lewis
    Tiger Flowers
    Mickey Walker
    John Henry Lewis

He fought everyone of his era, but he never got the Louis fight he was calling for.

    My ranking 22

I think you’ve got to put a % that has emphasis on their quality as a fighter. Ring IQ, technical ability, ability to adapt etc; That can also be relative to their era too. I value it a ton if I’ve seen fighters in with all different styles and how they adapt and do with it.

    I’d put 25% onto this area at least. Even if you don’t value it as much as that it’s a good separator if you have 6-7 close on resume, longevity etc;

I also think weight hopping can be overrated on paper especially if it’s just to cherry pick an easy strap or for one fight only. Ultimate domination of one weight can get underrated too. A fighter who reigns as the champion for so long and is dominant probably stopped someone else being great. Archie Moore probably stopped Harold Johnson being one of the Gods for example. Not that Harold wasn’t great - he was.

Thats all fair. I have a completely separate list for skills. But I completely agree with the weight jumping thing. I usually only count it if they dominate that weight

Rosenbloom is very interesting as he has become comical and vastly forgotten and under rated .. the man could fight.

Idk yet I'm not done, it's a good shout.

The list is based on Résumé, Longevity, Achievements and Weight Movement

Thinking about it I'd probably have him early 20s, you?

I can see improvement in your list every single time i read it!

A few minor points from my perspective

    -Battling Nelson too high
    -Louis too low
-Kid Lewis too high (used to that one)
    -Benny Leonard too high
    -Young Corbett lll too high
    -Missing Willie Pep

Many of these are quite debatable. For an example, i rank Mayweather higher than you, but i can easily see him in the place you put him

For note, my top 30 currently goes something like:

    1. Greb
    2. SRR
    3. Louis
    4. Charles
    5. Langford
    6. Armstrong
    7. Ali
    8. Fitzsimmons
    9. Pep
    10. Ray Leonard
    11. Duran
    12. Marciano
    13. Tunney
    14. Saddler
    15. Hagler
    16. Moore
    17. Ross
    18. Mayweather
    19. McLarnin
    20. B Leonard
    21. Gans
    22. Walker
    23. Foreman
    24. LaMotta
    25. Loughran
    26. Hearns
    27. Ambers
    28. Canzoneri
    29. Britton
    30. Welsh

    @George Crowcroft.

You liked my Twitter post about Lennox Lewis' ego. Your Twitter alluded to the fact that you have a foot fetish. Care to explain yourself.
