You are saying it was 9-3 at least, while the official judges had it much closer. (6-6, 8-4, 9-3) You're saying it was 9-3 Mayweather at least, while the official judges had it 9-3 Mayweather at most. Not only that, but the boxing public at large thought it was a very close fight and Mayweather granted Maidana the rematch so he must have thought Maidana did something worthy of a rematch. Acting like it wasn't a close fight is just silly, but really you are the one in an alternate reality saying that it wasn't close or competitive when one judge had it a draw and the majority of the public public saw it as a close competitive fight. That said, that's not to say that Maidana is a more skilled boxer than Floyd. I don't think anyone's arguing that. Floyd is no doubt a master of the sweet science, but Maidana showed that he has the relentless pressure needed to outwork Mayweather round after round. Floyd will try to counter him with well timed right hands, and the rematch should be good fun.
I don't think anyone believes that. Floyd lost the majority of the rounds in the first half of the fight, gave them away by not throwing anything. When the headbutt came I thought he was done, glad he turned it around but it was a rough fight that he won eight rounds to four or seven to five being less generous. Maidana was not finding much of a target as the fight progressed.
nor me, i saw maidana fail to maintain his pace of the early rounds, allowing floyd the breathing space to operate. 8-4 floyd.
Unrelenting pressure seem to be Floyds weakness and its a slight weakness. I think its because he chooses to stay against the ropes rather than move, which makes sense due to his age and the fact he doesn't go for KO's so he needs to conserve energy for 12 rounds. Hatton also had a bit of success.
It's about a lot of guaranteed $$$$. Maidana was celebrating with Garcia when they walked back to his dressing room after the fight.
some people will quote the judges when it suits their purposes and ignore the judges when convenient. Am i to assume you gave just as much credence to the 117-113 canelo-lara score or the 114-114 floyd-canelo scores or any of the other ridiculous scores we see sometimes from the judges? If not, then you need to stfu when it comes to using the judges as your main gauge for the spread. Most of the people who go to boxing matches can't even tell which punches are landing and which missed, so to use them as the gauge of how well maidana did, is nonsense. People who actually took the time to watch the fight on tv and actually scored it round by round such as myself, saw it more like 10-2 for floyd.
The thing no one is talking about is the weight difference. There was a huge 20 lb weight difference and people are ignoring this as if it's irrelevant. If maidana is the same size as floyd, he's not able to maintain that pressure....he can't muscle floyd around...he's not able to withstand floyd's counters. the first fight was a case of a welterweight fighting a super middleweight. so, of course the unrelenting pressure you speak of is gonna have more of an effect in that siituation.
Scoring a boxing fight is subjective. Just because you think Floyd won it 10 rounds to 2 doesn't mean that those who saw it closer are in an alternate reality. Ask yourself : why did Floyd give Maidana a rematch? He doesn't typically give people rematches. The last time he gave someone a rematch was Castillo, right when the public thought Castillo won. Obviously Mayweather thought Maidana was deserving of a re-match. That's not an alternate reality, that's the real reality. The fight went like this : Maidana won the first half of the fight and Floyd won the second half of the fight. As far as how many rounds you gave to Maidana, that's up to you. I agree that Maidana has to land more clean punches this time around, but still he was overwhelming Floyd for the first 6 rounds. He wasn't landing that many clean punches, but he was bothering Floyd and preventing Floyd from landing punches and when you do that you can win rounds against Floyd. And winning rounds vs Floyd causes Floyd to be uncomfortable and take more risks. As far as the judges scoring in other fights, sure there are fights where the judges have questionable cards. But I am actually in the minority when it came to Floyd - Canelo. I thought it was even, I actually thought 11 of those rounds were even, and Floyd won one round big. (i think the 7th) That was pretty much how that fight went. Canelo Lara I thought the cards were about right. Canelo won, it was close but Lara ran too much and Canelo landed the harder more crowd pleasing punches. Canelo also didn't get credit for a knockdown that was ruled a slip that would have made it wider for Canelo.
ok, so you're mexican...you shoulda just said that upfront instead of posting that other crap first. The only reason floyd is fighting a rematch is because there's no other latinos around for him to fight...he's already beat them all. This rematch has nothing to do with there being any doubt about who won the first fight...there is no question on anybody who watches the fight that floyd won by about 9-3. As I said in the first post, it's about the myth that maidana did so good. I'm watching the post fight interview after what i thought was a pretty routine win by floyd and the announcers are acting like floyd would be scared to give maidana a rematch becuase presumably maidana deserved to get the win and was robbed by the judges...and i'm thinking to myself "wtf fight were they watching?" but the myth of maidana doing so good in the first fight started there... because he wasn't obliterated is why there's even a rematch here...it's a fabrication built on delusion wrapped up in wishful thinking surrounded by a wall of denial in the magical realism of the latin-american mindset. but that's how this sport works sometimes
Ducked margo ducked what shouldve been his second L against martinez.Miss me with the he beat all the latinos bs.9-3 for floyd? get his cawk out your mouth....
Ok, what part of latin america are you descended from?...and since you raised the point, did you also think floyd's fights with genaro hernandez, jesus chavez and robert guerrero should have been called a draw?
margarito?...obviously you mexicans hate each other. Why would you wish margarito to be subjected the the most brutal, potentially career-ending, physical and psychological abuse of his life?
ok first of all, assuming that I'm Mexican or from some part of Latin American because agreed with the official scores on Floyd Canelo and Canelo Lara is wrong on so many levels. I'm not even going to justify that with a response as it's just beyond crazy to make that assessment. Second of all, I LOL at you using robert guerrero as an example of a fight that should have been a draw. No judge scored that fight a draw or even closer than 117-111 (9-3). Frankly that fight I thought was more lopsided in favor of Floyd. Guerrerro did nothing vs Floyd and that was a walk in the park compared to Floyd's fights with Canelo and Marcos.
