    :rofl
I know what ur trying to say.
    But shhh.

McLean was 6'3 and over 20st at his peek.
Shaw was under 6ft but around 15/16st.

These aren't boxers or MMA artists at follow set rules, they were bareknuckles, no rules fighters.

Most fighters, whether boxing or MMA, would find it hard to adjust in a no rules fight.

theres no doubting that these guys could scrap and were physically tough.

but your last paragraph is interesting.
It would be totally foolish to throw away defense in a streetfight. do you think it is wise to go crazy in a streetfight? swinging, head down and fighting like animals. thats how these men fought, they tough cos they were hitting and getting hit back until someone fell which could have been them.

a professional fighter, be it a mma fighter or a muay thai fighter would hit fast and hard and try not to get hit. thats what you call a proper fighter.

lol niether joe savage, no mclean or shaw show any sign of knowing how to fight. simple stuff like parrying and keeping your hands up. they can get away with this on the street cos most likely they fighting a guy who also doesnt know the proper way to fight. just raw sluggers...."AAARRGH" *swings* (possibly misses) :huh

these guys will lose as soon as they fight someone who knows how to hit them very hard and not get hit himself...simple

however i am not doubting there toughness.

Very impressive knowledge Henry especially as you're not British.

The best book on this type of fighting I've read is Bartley Gorman's 'King of the Gypsies'. Brilliant book

I might also add, that JohnShep from BoxRec, the main editor there, always claimed that many of McLean's fights were not on the level to begin with. That alot of guys laid down for Lenny. Whether this is true or not, I have no idea, but such under handed **** often occured in the underground world of organized fights.

Hey, look at Morrison-Williams, for instance. They tried to play it off as being a boxing match, but once people cried 'FAKE!', they backpeddled and had all film of the farce taken off the internet, and claimed it was a pseudo-mma exhibition. Nobody was fooled, it was a cheap trick in the hopes it would get Morrison 'active' in boxing again.

Good article..... maybe Roy Shaw should go on 'Secret Milliaonaire' on Channel 4?

I knew about McLeans life but I didn't know many thought Roy could of been such a good middleweight in the pro ranks.

I didn't either to be honest, but criminal record means no BBBoC licence.
Shame, maybe his early life would of turned out differently(no jail and no Broadmoor) :? :huh

Tyson allowed to fight in Glasgow
    Associated Press

LONDON -- The British government will allow Mike Tyson into the country next month to fight Lou Savarese in Glasgow, Scotland, despite a poll that shows he is unwanted.
Despite strong opposition from lawmakers and a newspaper poll that showed that nearly two-thirds of Scots don't want Tyson let in, Home Secretary Jack Straw, whose department covers law and order, said today that the convicted ****** can return to Britain for the fight June 24.

"I am fully aware of the strong opinions which have been expressed on Mr. Tyson's application, especially in Scotland, as I was when this matter last came before me in January," Straw said. "It is, however, my responsibility to make decisions of this kind as fairly and impartially as I can, and that is what I have sought to do."

Tyson, who served three years for a **** conviction, was cleared by Straw to enter the country in January despite a law that bars anyone who has served a jail sentence of a year or more.

Tyson knocked out Julius Francis in Manchester, England.

Straw agreed to bend the rules at the time, citing exceptional circumstances, and said the cancellation would have cost small businesses millions. But he also said that the visa might be a one-time occurrence.

Women's groups are lining up against Tyson, as they did in January.

And a poll of 1,000 Scottish men and women, conducted by the tabloid Daily Record, 62.3 percent wanted Tyson kept out of the country. That compared with 21.1 percent saying he should be allowed in while 16.6 weren't sure.

Claire Ward, a lawmaker who raised the Tyson issue in the House of Commons on Wednesday, said she was disappointed by Straw's decision.

"But I am not surprised, given that the Home Secretary permitted Mike Tyson to come into the country for the first time," she said.

"We are very disappointed by Jack Straw's decision and very concerned that the feelings of Scottish people have been ignored," said Oona Hay of the **** Crisis Center in Glasgow. "Our main concern is the message that is being sent to women and how seriously the government really takes violence against women."

One Glasgow lawmaker welcomed Straw's decision.

"He applied and he behaved himself the last time he visited the UK, and the Secretary of State was obviously very happy about that," said Jimmy Wray.

Despite the protests from women's group, Tyson was received enthusiastically in January when he was treated like a rock star and mobbed everywhere he went while training in London and Manchester.

Two sites in Glasgow, are believed to be competing to land the Tyson-Savarese bout: Scotland's 52,000-seat national soccer stadium, and Celtic's 60,000-seat stadium.

"I'm sure there will be another frenzy like we had last time," said promoter Frank Warren, who a date and place for the fight would be announced Friday. "Our office has already been inundated with calls and people will be here to support Mike Tyson just like they were when he fought the British champion."

You can bet ur savings Warren had to make some calls and grease some palms!!! :rofl
