The cut was never under control, Marciano's corner told him he had to get Charles out of there or risk the fight being stopped. You are denying accounts from the actual principals who were there to try and beat this into the shape you want . Why am I even attempting to debate this with you?
I am not denying anything other than I did not see much blood on film. The canvas looks pristine. I didn’t see Henry Cooper level of bleeding. Yes the cut was terrible. Deep. Worthy of a stoppage. But this was a title fight and Rocky was the champion. Telling a fighter he’s going to be stopped is what was needed…and I don’t doubt they thought it “could” happen. Rocky still needed to finish the fight to prevent it becoming an issue. But looking at the film, where we can’t see any spillages anywhere, I am not surprised Rocky had been allowed to go as long with it as he had. Most fighters deserve that chance if they are still willing. I think things would have had to have got a lot worse for Rocky before he was stopped. I think what is said after the event, After it was turned around, on reflection people can say “it could have been stopped” “he couldn’t have gone much longer” and that’s only afterwards. While it was happening, is a different matter and a lot of historical evidence shows champions don’t get stopped on cuts while they are competitive and willing to continue.
Nope I’m drawing a blank. Nope I’m drawing a blank on anything approaching the gore of Marciano or Vitalis wounds in any other title fights.
