He may have the claim for hardest hitting Light heavy but not cruiser , his top opponents were borderline lightheavies themselves , maybe except of LaStarzza whom was a small cruiser , and Marciano did not really concussed LaStarzza , did he ? Now imagine someone big (for Marciano) and tough like Jirov , Haye or a prime O'neil Bell whom were used to grueling fights against bigger men than Marciano and his top opposition. Will he concuss anyone of them ? now some posters here will go : Marciano KO1 Bell , Marciano KO1 Jirov , Marciano will beat the **** out of Haye worse than Carl Thompson did.
But in reality , these posters have no clue to what would have happened had Marciano fought each one of these.
I am not too sure he'd have lost , but if he won by stoppage , it would have been a very hard earned and late TKO.
And Marciano went down against Moore and Walcott , no disrespect to them , but they were borderline lightheavies. Imagine what would have happened to him had he ate a full wallop from , say Michael Moorer at 190 or 200. He would have gone down .
Michael Moorer , Michael Spinks and Evander Holyfield are other worthy candidates for this claim.
They had some stoppage wins at a legitimate HW division.

 

What about Bernard Benton or Alfonso Ratliff?? Or maybe Henry Tillman???

Corbett, Johnson, Fitz, Gans and a load more rated him the top puncher. He regularly ko'd 200+ HW's, often leaving them out for several mins. Russel, Dunkhorst, Harris were all big men.

Let's get real. Marciano was one of the pound for pound hardest hitters that ever lived. Louis felt Baer (both), Schmeling, Galento and said Rocky hit him the hardest ... His comment after his loss to Rocky was "that Rocky can really swat." I'll take Joe's word. I don't rate Rocky straight up as high as many here but to diss power is a bit much ..

 

Too bad they the wacko twins did not give Gerry every chance to be the best he could be that left hook shut many a big mouth up. I remember Gerry fighting for the NY golden gloves for the Middleweight finals he fought a guy with the same record as him 4-0 all KO's Gerry dropped him 3 times in rd one for the KO...If I remember correctly he was a southpaw but that was a long time ago...he made a clutch-er out of ST

 

Dude, you need to check yourself. You are stretching way too far with this ****. I'm the guy who rips on the old fogey's for their rose-colored glasses but Marciano was a true beast. I would stake a month's mortgage on him over any sub-200 fighter in the history of the game.

AND Ruby Bob Fitzimmons also- At about 165 pounds ko'd heavyweights as Dan Creedon, Peter Maher,Tom Sharkey, Jim Corbett, Ed Dunkhorst ets..Fitz was called "a fighting machine on stilts" by John L Sullivan...A wrecking machine with his body blows...
